Legal curbs on hate often backfire.....

Alan Borovoy - Make the distinction between hate words and deeds

A CCLA position paper in which we see that Alan Borovoy was sounding the alarm on Human Rights Commissions way back in 95. That's afore you was born Whippersnapper!

At a recent conference of governmental human rights commissions, the theme
was how they should deal with expressions of hate. Increasingly, these
commissions have been attempting to use their coercive powers to muzzle racist,
sexist, and homophobic speech.

In my view, this represents a questionable priority. I believe the commissions have more important work to do.

Funny they never muzzle anti-: white, male, Christian, speech.

Could it be they don't see their own bias?

The way to handle all bigotry is to simply let these losers rail....and allow their fellow citizens to condemn their intellectual retardation in the public marjkewt place of ideas in debate.

I see the way the US handles the KKK...they leave them alone and when these losers have a rally they are usually surrounded by Americans denouncing their arcane foolishness.

Since the US stopped actively pursuing the KKK with police and court resouces, they have become more of a joke than a threat.

The "Human Rights" hustlers don't want canadians to know that - they would be out of work in a heartbeat once word got out.

mda, some biases are permissible, don't you know.

bcf, there is an entire industry built up on the foundation of the pity-me-I'm-a-victim mentality. I sure would like to see that industry dismantled and people held accountable for their behavior, no matter what grievance mongering group they belong to.
