Stunning Victory for Plan B Party: Government establishes Justice committee to look at section 13

From Barrelstrength via SDA

At the request of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice has created a departmental committee to examine section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Not seeing any independent verification yet but there's always hope maybe we wont have to go with Plan-B.

Jason Kenny always seemed on side:

“Like many Canadians, I am deeply concerned about allegations of the incitement to hatred and violence at recent protests across Canada.”

“It is shocking to think that flags of banned terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah are being flown in the streets of Canadian cities. The ideals these terrorist organizations preach are abhorrent to the fundamental values of the Canadian people and of all civilized peoples: freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.”

“The open incitement of hatred has absolutely no place in Canadian society. We offer our condolences to all innocent victims of armed conflict and to those affected by repeated acts of terror. We remain vigilant in upholding fundamental Canadian values.”

Barrelstrength has done some good work on this story. Let's hope he's right.

Kenny is great but Harper should really be taking the lead and until he does I may be slipping off the fence towards Plan B

Show me the money: does Barrel Strength have an actual source for this? There's no link on their blog.

Oh, and welcome back BCF!

We may still be buggered if the committee is made up of far leftists rather than common sense Joe Plumbers.

If I remember correctly from Ezra's blog these lawyers are the ones that want to keep S13 as is. So to me it is just a smoke screen put up by Harper who obviously heard the backlash from his comment. It is not enough to make me vote if an election comes from the budget. If I were you I would keep plan B I think you might still need it.

Plan B is all about keeping Harper's feet to the fire until s. 13 is repealed. Not a pledge to repeal or a study of repeal - repeal passed through the Commons and the Senate and given Royal Assent.

Till then we keep going.

Sorry to be off topic, but there's an old song running through my head that I just can't get rid of.The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.

The best news of 2009 so far.

A "departmental committee" of lawyers is less desireable than a full independant police investigation and parliamentary committee - but it is a start.

Hopefully on the table is the future of Lynch and all Sec. 13 "hate team" investigators and a review of tactics of certain individuals at the tribunal hearings as well as the lack of due process and rule of law within the tribunal itself.

Until there are results - I back Plan B

At least some party hack can crack the cone of silence over the PMO, can get Harper's ear and keep some small semblance of grass roots agenda input to the Harper policy vacuum.

These are my conclusions about PM Harper's latest aboutface on Section 13.

We all know the MSM pay little to no attention to conservatives. I'm certain the CPC has noticed the same thing. All partisan political groups monitor the media, after all.

Give that the MSM don't report on conservatism, what do you think the CPC monitors?

I suspect the CPC monitors the conservative blogosphere (i.e. us, you and me!). I suspect that the reaction to PM Harper stating that NO ACTION was required on Section 13 in a recent interview was notes by CPC media monitors. When "the reaction" coalesced into "PLAN B" within HOURS, I think PM Harper was informed of same.

As I recall, PLAN B meant ignoring/getting rid of Harper. And PLAN B was conceived by people who have staunchly supported PM harper most of the time.

Maybe PM Stephen Harper decided it would be unwise to bite the hands that feed him.
