Jennifer Lynch Responds: I am the Censorship Czarina you will obey me!

Jennifer Lynch - Globe and Mail - Hate speech: This debate is out of balance

"I believe critics of human-rights commissions and tribunals are manipulating information and activities around rights cases and freedom of expression to further a new agenda. This agenda posits that rights commissions and tribunals, and the attendant vigilance over all the rights and freedoms Canadians now enjoy, no longer serve a useful purpose. In this way, the debate over freedom of expression has been used as a wedge to undermine and distort our human-rights system. "

That's right Jenny carry on with your efforts to criminalize all Canadians for daring to disagree with you.

What a load of self serving Bullshit - go smack Jenny in the comments.

Done. I've left my comments. And I'll be mass mailing the Conservative Members of Parliament this evening that if they expect to win my vote, they will need to show commitment and resolve to deal with this issue. Sacking Ms. Lynch immediately for waste of tax dollars - for hiring a consultant to issue a report and then dumping the same because it didn't say what she expected - is just a starting point.

Disgusting.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (11:27 AM)

Well said, what an amazing piece of self serving bullshit she wrote.

The LS from SK  – (12:14 PM)

What is to comment?

She is clearly misunderstood and the contributions she made first class in Cameroon, Nigeria or Vienna were not appreciated, comprehended or understood by the unemployed and disposessed?.

She has not even yet dealth with the fall out of the tainted testimony cases of her staff (nor ex-staff) and she wants our sympathy? sniff.

I know many an honourable leader that fell on their sword for mistakes under their watch even when they had no part in them.

If she cannot manage and be decisive (as compared to devisive) - then get out of the way. When will she do the right thing? RESIGN.

When will Stevie Dither's come up to the plate.

I think it's suspicious that you have a commentary on free speech by Jennifer Lynch, and the comments are disabled, or broken on that page:

What gives? Can we imply from this that the Globe is worried that someone might say something they don't like about an editorial on free speech?

Apparently, you guys have absolutely no sense of irony.

Funny, isn't it?

One Commission, one Government, one Opposition party can help destroy the liberty and tradition-of-law gained over hundreds and hundreds of years with the sacrifices of millions of people.

And one Commission, one Government, one Opposition party could help maintain that same liberty and tradition-of-law.

Relatively few citizens, editors, preachers, priests, or MPs even care.

And one person, Jennifer Lynch, cares only for her heyday and her payday.

Alas.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (1:04 PM)

Chris the comments appear to be intact and still allowed, let me know if that changes. Thanks.

Well said Noel

"This agenda posits that rights commissions and tribunals, and the attendant vigilance over all the rights and freedoms Canadians now enjoy, no longer serve a useful purpose".

well... yeah... duh.

"all the rights and freedoms Canadians now enjoy...". really, Jennifer? all of them? or maybe just the state approved ones?

actually, we're doing you a favour, you dimbulb. we're trying to protect your liberty.

Four Horses  – (4:26 PM)

Now Canadians are starting to see how the CHRC and s13 are being used to impose a CHEKA Charter.

And Stevy Wonder fiddled with papers while Canada burned.

Revnant Dream  – (4:51 PM)

What a prescient name this Communist cow has. What fury filled with self aggrandizement. Her righteousness is a dark halo of lies, mixed with Spite towards the Other!!!! Some folks get brain tumors, these types create them. I’m hoping to live long enough to see these termites in the body politic, come themselves before a Judge after this racket is truly exposed.

Canadians need to be aware of this. Many people like us who have followed the issue from the start think that the general public is aware. They are not. Whatever other issues the politicians think are important they are wrong. This issue is by far the most important issue in our era, in my opinion.

I joined the Alliance party only to promote the unification of the centre right parties to give us all an alternative to the Liberals. That push was successful. Once upon a time I was a card carrying Liberal. That party has now moved much to the left of where they once were. They are truly, merely, an asssociation for power. There are many to the centre in the Liberal party who would support the abolition of the HRC'S as constituted. (This deplorable situation ought to be pushed as a bipartisan issue.)

I am resolved to vote only for the candidate in provincial elections who recognizes the problem.

I live in Ontario and will be voting for the Progressive Conservative leadership. Sadly Christine Elliot one of the leading leadership candidates in Ontario is completely out of touch with the severe importance of this issue. I don't give a damn now about the other issues. This is the ONLY issue.

Hoarfrost  – (5:36 PM)

Quote from Monte Solberg's blog on the Ontario leadership campaign

".....Besides sticking your neck out to fix problems is what real leaders do. If you don't believe that then why run?"

I endorse that comment especially in light of this issue. I have never ever been a single issue voter. He is actually refering to this issue. NOW I AM a single issue voter!

Jim R  – (6:28 PM)

"Rights Commissions and Tribunals, and the attendant vigilance over all the rights and freedoms Canadians now enjoy.."

If the arrogance, self-importance, and sense of control and crushing responsibility for Canadians Rights in this statement doesn't scare you.....it should.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (6:33 PM)

She is sounding scarier by the minute.

The article's title reads...

Hate Speech: This debate is out of balance
Freedom of expression is a fundamental right in Canadian society. So is the right to be treated with equality, dignity, and respect.

Regarding the first line I think Jenny defines "out of balance" as "not going my way." Regarding the second line, let's read over the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The first rights cited are:

2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
(a) freedom of conscience and religion;
(b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;
(c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and
(d) freedom of association.

So Jen is right. Freedom of expression is indeed a fundamental right.

But how about equality, dignity, and respect? The only equality mentioned in the charter is equality under the law and the equality of the French and English languages. Probably not the type of equality she had in mind. The only time respect is used is when it means "in regards to". Dignity is not mentioned at all.

How could the head of the CHRC be so profoundly ignorant about Canadian human rights law? This women is just making it up as she goes along.

Louise  – (8:54 PM)

Sanwin, good idea. I've written to my PM and to the Minister whoe portfolio is responsible for dealing with this fiasco, but perhaps it's time for another letter.

BTW, I took a quick scan at the comments. Didn't see any that supported Ms Lynch and her lynch mob. Of course I didn't read them all, but if the first and last pages are any indication, Lynch should be crying in her beer and making an appointment with her shrink.

Jim R  – (10:10 AM)

"Lynch should be crying in her beer and making an appointment with her shrink."

Somehow I don't think she would be a beer drinker Louise. Not the kind of beverage that would be available on the menu in the literal 'world' class restaurants she dines in, with UN counterparts.

Shrink? Yes, definitely a necessity of life for easily offended people.
