Bernie Farber OUTTED! - NOT GAY!

Update: Queer Tee For The Straight Jew says National Review Online columnist!
...
Bernie Farber wears a "No one Knows I'm Gay" T-shirt...Wears an earring in his left lobe... Marches in The Gay Pride Parade... And then throws a Hissy-Fit when people joke he is acting Queerly!

Bernie has always been an oversensitive twit, The Star's bizarre apology announced that Bernie is shocked and traumatized that people made fun of him...For once I'm sidin with the Zerb; here's the post that started it all.

While Bernie Farber may not be Two-Spirited, he is certainly Two-Faced.

"Multiple media outlets quoted Farber saying that political groups do not belong in gay pride, and that he was encouraging people to lobby Pride Toronto against the inclusion of Queers Against Israeli Apartheid in the parade.

...a commenter on her blog pointed out that Farber had himself marched in the Pride parade with a political group..."
...

Both the left and right side of the political spectrum are having a field day at Bernie's outing, not the outcome he had in mind I'm sure. But remember Bernie thinks like a censor.

Another great find BCF.

I wrote to the Star suggesting it erred in judgement by even critizing one of their own.

From what I could see - there was nothing even mildly inappropriate. Bernie had to make it an issue though.

For heaven's sake - you march in the Gay Pride Parade, wearing a silly T-Shirt, wearing flamingo wrist bands - what other conclusion could one make? The streets of Toronto are public spaces so if you are high profile and don't want to get identified = DON'T MARCH.

If it walks like a duck, talks like a Duck - well it looks like a Duck.

Some of the comments from the "Queer Community" (linked) are right on - just shows how totally out of step the CJC and BB are!

Blazing Cat Fur  – (11:46 AM)

Bernie and Jen are walking PR disasters for the pro-censorship crowd.

The LS from SK  – (12:03 PM)

My God! Even Dawg agrees in a nicely written piece:

"Hell freezes over again"

Yariv  – (12:16 PM)

There were many wearing that T-shirt for goodness sakes. It was being sold as a fundraiser for the Jewish Gay and Lesbian group, Kulanu, that helped organize the the pro-Israel contingent.

Secondly, where in Ms. Zerbisias' blog does she even mention the T-shirt? No her post had a far different agenda.

Yariv  – (12:27 PM)

Just went back to read Zerbisias" blog. Funny how you BCL fall right into line with Steyn and others when it comes to your favourite pin cushion, Farber.

I was quite right Zebesisas never once mentions Farber wearing this Tshirt (worn by dozens of others) instead she identifies him as "joining" the Pride Parade to label him gay.

"Yes, Susan, imagine my surprise when I saw Bernie Farber identifying himself as queer by joining a pro-Israel gay rights group in the parade. Funny because I had never seen him in the march before. Funny because I didn't know he was gay."

Blazing Cat Fur  – (12:36 PM)

Yariv what are you yammering about? Where have I stated that it was the Zerb who noticed Bernie was wearing the "Nobody Knows I'm Gay T-shirt? I'll answer that - no where. For your edification the link to Rabble contains that info.

Yariv I know you CJC trolls mean well at heart, even if your faith in Fearless Leader Bernie is wildly misplaced, and you know I support Israel but when it comes to Bernie he is a self made Pin-Cushion. I just report his stupidity.

Yariv  – (1:02 PM)

Then what eaxctly is the problem? Zerb was out of line for falsely claiming that Farber was gay simply because he joined the kulanu group in the Pride parade. Agree or Disagree?

C'mon now BCF. You know if you even only linked to it,you must have said it. Isn't that how the HRC tried to get Steyn?
Yariv....you could at least try to accuse the right person before spouting your tripe.Or is the PC meme getting to you?

There might be a space issue with that idea BCF. Is the interweb large enough to cover it all?

john  – (4:19 PM)

So if I wear a "Nobody Knows I'm a Nazi" T-Shirt in a Neo-Nazi parade, I can expect an apology from the Toronto Star?

Blazing Cat Fur  – (4:35 PM)

I would hope so John, in keeping with their evident spirit of fairness, or you could file an HRC complaint against them.

steve  – (4:49 PM)

I am surprised Zerb was not marching with the gay anti-zionist crowd, as that is where her sympathies lie, judging from her blog posts over the last few years.(she could have worn a T-shirt saying 'I am not gay, but hate the evil Zionist Israeli state'.)

Blazing Cat Fur  – (4:53 PM)

Steve Zerb's T-Shirt should also have a qualifier - "I'm hoping the crocodile eats me last"

Heh King I used to live in the "village".

Revnant Dream  – (6:52 PM)

No one can say without a poker face, that Bernie Farber is a Queen of sorts. A drama Queen that is.

"i honestly can't tell the toronto pride parade from the rest of the city"

The parade is where they picked up the garbage afterwards.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (10:36 PM)

Thank God I live in Etobicoke, we still have garbage pick up - the rest of the city has been given over to Rats and Odours most foul.

the king of vista place  – (12:50 AM)

windsor's had no garbage pickup for about 3 months. it smells pretty much the same.

Colonel Robert Neville  – (1:00 AM)

Hey Blaze: I live in the inner-city of Melbourne Australia where virtually everyone says they have gay friends. Of course they do, and I'm writng a book..I just can't show you a complete one.

Statistically there are not enough gays to go around so to speak. They must be stretched to the limit with engagements and coffee afternoons. Simply stretched.

With friends like some earnest hipster straights who needs enemas? I must get new curtains. I know! I'll call up my friend.

I don't know why Bernie's so upset. He tweeted the pic himself for his twitter critters: http://twitgoo.com/zuqc

He could have avoided making himself look like a total fool had be had even a trace of a sense of humour about the whole thing. Instead, the Big Man demanded and received a Big Apology, and now everyone is gaffawing at his expense.

William  – (7:44 AM)

Maybe next time Bernie's t-shirt will read "Nobody knows I'M goy!"

Scott  – (9:25 AM)

Bernie's probably taken this one too far... But look at it from his perspective (I know, the mental gymnastics are difficult...). A reporter on an official newspaper website has (mis)identified him as a homosexual. Regardless of how you feel about gays, as figures who basically determine what fact is, reporters need to be held to task when bringing false information into the public sphere, especially in an official capacity.
I think this is a case where everyone is wrong, though. Antonia, for misreporting (in so very many ways). The Star, for turning on one of its own (but really, what do you expect from our country's very own Pravda). And Bernie, for feeling the need to engage. Hell, more people probably saw it when they published that apology.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (9:32 AM)

I dunno Scott it was plain that the Zerb's comment was meant sarcastiically, nothing more than a gentle barb. You are right it was a huge over reaction by Bernie and the Star.

Scott  – (9:40 AM)

I thought that too, but then I remembered how many dumb people there are out there and how easily misinterpreted that statement could be. Also, I don't care how gay-positive or whatever you are, I doubt any straight guy wants to be identified as gay, regardless of ironic intent.

natasha  – (11:24 AM)

Well then he shouldn't have worn the t-shirt.

Scott  – (11:48 AM)

I've worn a shirt with the bat-logo on it, doesn't make me Batman.

The LS from SK  – (3:09 PM)

Well Scott - you DELIBERATELY SKIP/miss the point that John said:

"john said...

Any guesses how many CSIS guys there are there to film that? Expectation of privacy = not likely.

I go to the Ottawa or TO Tamil love in and wear a Blazing Tamil Tiger shirt/flag - and no one should make any notice if I am a public figure?

Give it a break.

Scott  – (3:25 PM)

The difference here is that anyone who marches in a Neo-Nazi parade is a Neo-Nazi (or at least a supporter thereof). Not everyone who marches in a Pride Parade is Gay (but is, similarly, a supporter thereof, for better or for worse).

As for the shirt, people wear a lot of shirts. I have a shirt that says "give pizza chance" - doesn't make me a hippie. I think this is where our impasse is, and I don't think either of us are going to change the other's mind.

Let's agree to disagree?

This is obviously not logical Scott. The example of John Garrity, the undercover agent for the CJC in the MacLeans "I Spied on the Nazis" article of Oct. 1, 1966, disproves such assumptions. There could be a number of reasons for someone marching in a "Neo-Nazi" parade.

Scott  – (12:24 PM)

Arthur,

That's an exception that proves the rule. A 'spy' marching in neo-nazi parade is trying to be perceived as a neo-nazi, because the general rule is that anyone marching in such a parade would be a supporter thereof.
