So long Israel...
Arguments.
"There is alot of stuff available on the internet that was once unavailable, except for those willing to dig through a library. It can be packaged, activist fashion, puffed like a truthy media story, and fed to those willing to eat it. Questions that question the actual number of Jews fed to the ovens. Revelations about war atrocities. The Jews who escaped by buying their way out, and the Jews who worked for the National Socialists in the camps and thus survived (Kapos, the krauts called them, Kapos). There is much rich compost for the discerning activist seeking to prepare the Israeli’s for Masada the sequel, much as they prepared America for 9/11, the sequel to Pearl Harbor. No, the animus against Israel is deep, well-edumacated, and puffed in the media.
Why talk about if, and instead about how and when."

Consider the p.o.v from which it would seem dishonest, or internally self-contradictory, to write “so long Israel”. Yes, the present state of Israel could suffer some act of destruction. But the very fact that someone would care enough to say “so long”, that one would even bother to say anything about it, implies some kind of message to past and future, implying a belief in an eternal truth or principle that Israel represents, and that could take a stately presence in this world again. It is the truth that we can speak for ourselves, that we can make our own self-ruling nations, as a way of negotiating our differences for ourselves without the rule of kings and caliphates; it is the truth that becomes operational by denying that anyone has the means to invoke the presence of God as a special right. (The “chosen people” don’t claim some special right of chosenness - God punishes them in history when they go astray. To be “chosen” is simply to be among those charged with keeping alive the memory of the God who refused Moses’ request for His name.)
Israel represents a theological/anthropological truth; Gnosticism, in its un-negotiable resentment of the world that is, does not. As long as there are people who want to be free, in their own nations, “Israel” will be a principle that just can’t go away.
Having said that, anyone who thinks Obama is capable of doing more than calling in all U.S. debts, denying all received alliances, while addressing the Muslim world as a whole, as if such Utopian religious entities as the “Umma” were the proper concern of the American President, as if Obama were some kind of Messiah who can bring perpetual peace and justice to the world, needs to hypothesize how, before pronouncing the end. How will Obama actually justify to the American people, and put in play, new signs and relationships that necessarily entail the end of the present state of Israel? It is one thing to resent reality as such and present yourself as the saviour; it is another to act on reality in ways that show you actually believe in something tangible. How many Americans are like the college students who just want to engage in a trashing of what is?
Things may fall apart simply through negligence and Obama’s sense of “pragmatism” and disregard for free peoples; but in the meantime Israel is building new alliances with nations and states to the east. Many in control of oil spigots and arms factories don’t, when push comes to shove, really want a victory for the Muslim Brotherhood.
I won’t say the destruction can’t happen; i won’t say we don’t need to think about preparations for saving Jewish refugees; but let’s not forget the principled basis of our faith in freedom and in all that we can’t know is possible until it is.
That was a real gutsy essay. I wish it was not true . I feel its even farther along the road to another holocaust that is fast approaching.
I believe though, God will save His Land & People.
If you read the battles in the Bible. God seems to like 14 to 1 odds when blessing Israel!
