Rumours...nothing more than rumours...

An interesting tidbit from a credible source says Burnie Farber may be considering a go as a Liberal candidate. Yea? Nay? I dunno, now as one wag on the nay side put it:

"I don't believe it. It would be a step down for him in every respect -- financially, profile, connections, etc. He's far more effective running interference for them, in the guise of non-partisanship -- everything from his censorship fetish to his pro-Liberal election guides."

Hmm then again I remember a discussion centreing on the need for cultural change that dates back to the time of the Jackal.

There was a similar and much stronger rumor going around during the last provincial election that Farber was approached by John Tory to run as a Conservative.

Does your rumor stretch to where he was suppose to run?

My guess, its rumor-mongering. People in Farber's position are seen by all Parties as potential good catches. Farber has way too much invested at the Jewish Congress where he has much credibility (yes I know you are not fond of him but true is true)and has for the most part walked a fine political line amongst all parties.

Ridings were discussed but without revealing my source unintentionally, success would likely depend on an as yet unannounced resignation. Hard to say whether it's just speculation and simply part of the usual churn, I am waiting to hear back from someone who is waiting to hear back from someone who being well placed "should know". That said my original contact is very well connected and his reputation very credible.

Interesting stuff. And I do love these rumors even if they amount to nothing which I believe this does, its fun to speculate.

Farber would be a good catch if he was so inclined. He has run the CJC pretty well (despite your policy disagreements with him) for many years. He has managed to avoid trouble and potential scandal. He presents well and has some charisma. However, why the hell he or anyone with a modicum of sense would want to enter politics is beyond my understanding.

I agree he has viability as a candidate.

Ya he may be a viable candidate but (I can't believe Im saying this)I agree with you BCF; simply cannot see Farber wanting the headaches of federal politics. Who needs that crap?
