How soon before I am “interviewed” by the police?
"Blogger Seismic Shock, a Yorkshire-based student, received an alarming visit from local police late last year. Seismic, a Christian, had been heavily critical of Anglican vicar Stephen Sizer on his blog, alleging that Sizer associated with Holocaust deniers and anti-Semites."

More on this story at Harry's Place - a post by SeismicShock the threatened Blogger:
"Context: Sizer has associated with some very nasty terrorists and Holocaust deniers; McRoy has delivered a paper at a Khomeinist theological conference in Iran comparing Hezbollah’s struggle against Israel via suicide bombing with the Christian’s struggle against sin via the atoning death of Jesus, and describes the world’s most prominent Holocaust denier as an “intelligent, humble, charismatic, and charming” man who “gives quick, extensive and intelligent answers to any question, mixed with genial humour”)."
Our Canuck ex-pat SquareMileWife is on it.

Ghost of a Flea has an interesting take.
More here with a good round up of bloggers carrying this story.

In a civilized country, if someone slanders or libels you, you sue them for damages - and if you tried to get the cops to intimidate them or open a police file on them (much less have a chat with the head of their University), the cops would laugh you right out into the street...
I guess the United Kingdom of (Formerly) Great Britain and Northern Ireland is no longer a 'civilized country'. Not in the ways that count, anyway...
It's a bizarre story.
It's worrying. But some of the story isn't right. There's more to know.
Xan - in the UK no ordinary person can sue people for libel. The courts are not open to them, because only the rich can use them.
Hi Roger, yes there is more that needs to be known about this story. Canada is at least the equal of the UK, especially our libel laws which mirror your own although recent decisions have relaxed these somewhat.
