Our society has the responsibility to protect women from violence - including domestic violence. We know that because of the 'battered wife' syndrome, this may be difficult. But, that does not diminish our responsibility in upholding the laws and putting wife-beaters behind bars.

Right?

So, what happens when a man honestly believes he has the religious right to rape his wife? This is true for many Shi'a Muslims - and is a part of Sharia!

Does a woman loose her right to be protected from domestic violence because her husband holds a particular religious belief?

THAT is 'The Clash' we are facing!

Does an honestly held religious belief justify carrying out actions which are against our laws?

Does someone's belief exempt them from the law?

Because if it does, I have a deeply held, so deep it could only be called 'religious belief' that I don't have to pay taxes....anyone with me?
