Ezra v Serenity Vigna today

Vigna will be cross examining Ezra today in Ottawa, it should be finished by now in fact, hopefully some local bloggers will be offering updates later this evening. Closing statements will be tomorrow.

Ezra Levant defends against libel suit

What another one? Didn't he just get rid of Lynch?

Blazing Cat Fur  – (3:27 PM)

That was a Human Rights Commission complaint at the CHRC which is allegedly governed by Jennifer Lynch -it was dismissed as was the Alberta Human Rights Commission complaint initiated over the Mohammed cartoons, a 2nd baseless CHRC complaint was also dismissed.

This is a libel suit by Giacomo Vigna, a lawyer supposedly employed by the CHRC, who has also launched at least a dozen or so law society complaints against Ezra - all of which were dismissed.

He is currently involved in several libel actions involving Human Rights Commission staff and ex staff. The Lying Jackal and the Sockpuppet Khurrum Awan have also launched libel suits against him but neither appears to be proceeding that I am aware of.

We will win in the end.

Marty  – (3:51 PM)

Damned right we'll win. I have a sudden urge to make another donation to Levant's defense fund.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (3:54 PM)

Yup a good idea, we are also waiting for word on the motion of disclosure, the longer it takes to reach a decision the better goes the betting at this point.

John B  – (5:05 PM)

"Levant, a harsh critic of the country's human rights commissions, is being sued by one of the Canadian Human Rights Commission's lawyers for reprinting online an embarrassing transcript from a hearing at the tribunal."

So the issue isn't whether Levant made defamatory comments about Vigna, only that Levant embarrased him by printing Vigna's own words. I hope the court awards court costs to Levant.

JUST got home from the courthouse!!!

Will have to make dinner before I blog, but....

I am beginning to really feel sorry for Mr. Serene Bean. I really, really don't think he understands what is going on, how he comes across or what the things people say to him actually mean. No, I'm not 'trash talking'. I really think he does not understand what people tell him, or what effects his actions are having.

BTW - he mentioned you!!!

At one point - and I am paraphrasing, getting the 'gist' of what he was saying (it went through an interpreter, anyway - he spoke in French) - Vigna (did you know that 'Vigna' is a genus of beans? That sort of makes him Mr. Bean....more accurate than you'd think)

Where was I?

Oh, yeah.

At one point, Mr. Vigna said that the reason Mr. Levant's words were so destructive to his reputation was that once he posts them on his blog, other influential bloggers LIKE BLAZINGCATFUR pick them up!

THAT is what REALLY hurt him!

I can't wait for a transcript of Ezra crossing Vigna on the stand.

Terrence  – (9:03 PM)

An interesting show today.

Vigna tried to bring up a bunch of stuff about Ezra's past, and the judge finally threw out the whole line of questioning. It was entirely irrelevant.

And when I say, "Ezra's past," I mean going back to events from his days at the University of Alberta.

Vigna also really, really doesn't like his "serenity now" nickname. Ya know.. just in case ya get the urge to call him something...

I'll try to have an article up later about the trial at the WS.

Xanthippa  – (9:47 PM)

As Terrence says: Vigna seemed to think that linking Ezra to people - all kinds of people - that are not 'popular' with the CHRC would somehow 'taint him by association'. He tried to claim that when Ezra was a student, he 'invited' Mark Lemier's lawyer (also a student at that time) to a debate, and he even mentioned that he approved a comment to his blog by 'that' 'Connie Fournier'!

Silly bunny - does he not realize Connie Fournier WON her law-case against his buddy Warman?!?!?

Xanthippa  – (9:50 PM)

The more I ponder this, the more I think the 'Mr. Bean' analogy is painfully accurate....

Terrence  – (9:59 PM)

Yep. The judge is a patient man, in my estimation, but he was losing it today.

Vigna is playing the guilty-by-association game, but he's doing it badly. In my notes, I wrote (and underlined): "Does V. REALLY think Ezra is a Nazi!?"

The next entry says: "Patience runs out. Judge blocks entire line of questioning."

Xanthippa  – (10:33 PM)

Terrence,

how do I get to your blog? I want to link....if you want to email me - xanthippas.chamberpot at gmail dot com...

Terrence  – (10:53 PM)

Well.. I don't really have a blog right now. If I put something up, it will be at the Western Standard, most likely.

Thanks for the thought. I really should get back into it.
