Five Feet Of Fury Meets Badge No. 3478
This is pretty funny. Sadly it's the missed photo-op of the day. I only caught the tail end of our conversation with Badge No. 3478, an arrogant boob too dim to understand that he serves the public and not the other way around. Read 5Feet's account for the details. This occured while we were filming the arrest of several "anarchists" on Bloor this afternoon, The officer crossed the street and demanded we stop filming and move along. We refused, he heard me turn on the camera and that's when the fun began. Bear in mind this occurred at mid day on Bloor. The miscreants were cuffed and seated against a wall, about 30 police were in the immediate vicinity, no protest activity was occurring anywhere near this area. The biggest threat evident was from disgruntled Holt Renfrew shoppers.

Mark Steyn- Keystone Kanuck Kops More fun from the G20 summit:
"Having stood by watching as a mob trashed downtown businesses (and their own cruisers), the peculiarly insecure dweebs of the Toronto police are now threatening law-abiding passers-by (that would be Cop#3478) and beating up Guardian reporters"
...
Trupeers in the comments: "I don't know what's going on in Toronto, but here's a hypothesis: when you force people in their day to day jobs to live some arbitrary PC code that grows out of moral and cultural relativism,when real trouble starts they have no centre and lose control and react hysterically." and points us to this story;
"Steve Paikin, a prominent Toronto journalist said that he was escorted away by two police officers who saw his government-issued summit media credentials. He was advised that if he stayed he would be arrested.
As he was being taken away, Mr. Paikin said he saw another journalist, Jesse Rosenfeld, a contributor to the Guardian website, showing his identification to two police officers. At that point, according to Mr. Paikin, each of them took one of Mr. Rosenfeld’s arm as a third police officer, wearing a t-shirt and shorts, punched the reporter in the stomach. After Mr. Rosenfeld fell to the ground, the third officer jabbed an elbow into his back. Mr. Paikin said."

Michael Coren: Passive Aggressive
"Frankly I don’t care at all if a few middle-class morons dressed in black who want to smash things and people get hit over the head by a cop or two. But it’s essential that peaceful protestors, passers-by and journalists are not treated like this."
...
My city in ruins:
"Let me get this straight. The cops have been watching these people for a year, were gifted with draconian security powers by the province, and they still couldn't do anything to stop them? At what point do reasonable people begin questioning the usefulness of the Toronto Police, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police? Given the ineptitude of all three, it's a miracle that there hasn't been a major terrorist attack on Toronto this weekend."

G20: Post photographers spend night in detention centre
"Everyone in jail says they are innocent. But there were a lot of people who said they were picked up randomly. One guy, a computer engineer, said he was smoking a cigarette, taking a look at the security fence, when he was arrested by police. “How cool are you now,” the police told the man after they took him into custody."

I just felt a disturbance in the Force.
Heh, this was pretty funny, I don't think Officer Rose has a grasp on public relations. We hope to advance his understanding.
Oh, please, school the man, BCF - everybody needs an edukashun.
I am not sure we can help him. I've encountered this sort of arrogant stupidity before.
Arrodunce, I just coined a new word!

The CBC spin from a PScience York Prof... The cops did it..
It is at the point where everybody must carry a recording device of some sort at all times...
Better that then cameras a la London.

This guy is awesome...
Charming...
The cops must thank their lucky stars for Black Bloc otherwise they'd be the G-20 "dummies of the weekend".
What makes this all the more egregious are the reports that the majority of those arrested were bystanders not Black Bloc, not rioters but bystanders. I wonder if they were just ordered to go out and haul people in to look busy.
Thanks for the links VanG, I will get to em later.
Sounds like you "got off easy": As he was being taken away, Mr. That seems as logical an explanation as any. All in all this is a very sick spectacle.
I would say you didn't even get your nickle's worth from officer friendly.
It's a sick spectacle because that's all it is: two sides of hollow people.
I sent a quick message to Natasha (with a word or two including experiences with the Barrie Police). Hopefully she's not done for the day and Mr. Badge 3478 (if the real badge number at all) will get a little more exposure.
The number of arrests following the inaction against the window bashing, property destroying, feces throwing, cop car burning misdadventurers have been soooo brave. Waking people up to arrest them is sooo brave.
To bad they're cowardice will haunt them from not preventing or even attempting to stop the damage in the first place.
It must've taken a really brave soul to confront an aggressive imposing violent looking lot like the both of you!
We don't call MPs in the military Meat Heads for nothing. I'm certain there's a similar description that could be applied here.
I hate to say it but a public enquiry should be called, Paikin's Story is appalling. I almost fell off my chair last night reading Jkay's fanciful homage, especially after his own paper posted pics of one of their staff being thrown to the ground by the cops.
He is likely Metro I think Kaffir, but his badge got blurred in the glare. Reports are surfacing the bulk of arrests have been bystanders, - window dressing to make the Cops look good.
As soon as the violent protests began all gawkers, so-called legit protestors should have backed off and disappeared. The cops were in it tough and you and your friends made it more difficult for the officers to do their respectable duty. yes the police should be tough with you.
Hoarfrost, this was mid afternoon on Bloor street, the only demonstration going on was the passing parade of shoppers. How the half dozen Boobs ended up there is anyones guess. There was no violent demonstration of any sort taking place. No public disturbance of any kind taking place. It is not illegal to film in public, we were across the street and so weren't hindering their activities in any way. I suggest you read Paikin's account to gain an understanding of how hysterical the over reaction has been.
Ah yes, as Kathy tweeted for which Natasha picked up and posted (with da badge numba et al) he is local.
Guess the TO cops are making the Barrie cops look good these days.
So the dragnet is expanding and the possiblity of powers of arrest for arrest's sake seem to be taking a life of its own.
I guess Lucy could've made a killing taking up all these cases of false arrest that are soon to be filed if "that creature" weren't so busy dealing with fake crime. (snickering in delight)
Paikin's tweets collected by Vancouver's leading antisemite rag.
It would seem to me if this is what we do when we invite Obama, the chief thugs of Turkey and Saudi Arabia, among others, to the country, it would be best for all concerned that we stop inviting them and showing what we are no longer capable of hosting.
true,
What also happens everytime there are these violent destructo protestations is that the MSMs never point out that there are no violent Far Right Wing fanatics at these events. Or even Right wing protesters. Are there?
Oh right. They're the ones with cameras being told to move along because el-badgeo 3478 thinks they doth protest too much with their steely gaze through their lensed instrument of demonstration!
I could understand his reaction if we had been in the midst of a genuine riot however we weren't, this was Bloor Street, near Holt Renfrew, nothing was happening near tha area. There were at least 30 police and 3 paddy wagons there to contain the 6 cuffed and seated "anarchists" they had apprehended.
I know. That's what makes it more absurd.
Anarchists should be given a country of their own. We have lots of pretty empty islands in the Arctic. Drop them off with all the supplies they need for survival, and let them "govern" themselves; just no trip back. It would be a compelling learning experience.
I'm hoping it would end like "Into the wild"
Kaffir,
re: no violent right wing extremists
Reminds me of a story I heard a while ago. Earlier this year there was a scare in the Vancouver media about a neo Nazi march that was being planned in the suburbs (they were supposedly going to march out to the forest on Burnaby Mountain and commune with nordic spirit gods for a winter-time picnic, or something crazy)
Anyway word got out that they were meeting at a certain skytrain station. According to my one source who was there, he saw a huge crowd of "anti-racism" protestors show up (as the MSM reported) to let the "nazis" know they weren't welcome. But the "nazis" didn't show up (according to the MSM; actually, according to my source they were there, secretly filming the event - he realized this after he saw the video on the nazi site). After a while a couple of suspicious looking suburban kids innocently walked out of the station and the "anti-racist" mob fingered them as Nazis and chased them and they ran up to some high point, a ledge of some sort and the mob was chanting "jump" "we want you to die", or words to that effect.
Apparently things calmed down and the kids didn't jump; but none of this was reported by the MSM, if my source can be trusted.
The "anti-racists" were the same nihilist criminal element that rioted in downtown Vancouver on the opening day of the Olympics.
In the 1950s a well know writer named Ray Bradbury wrote a Story in which a man taking a stroll at night for the air. Is accosted by Police, which in those days was highly unusual. It becomes a nightmare for the Citizen. This was considered cutting edge in that era. Now its most peoples typical encounter with "our New Police".
This is how far we have fallen.

Thanks Rev that really nails it. It is odd, at the demonstrations we attend the Cops turn a blind eye to the miscreants. There is a totalitarian methodology at work.
Glad you're okay, Blazing!
Thanks Donald but we were not near the protests at that time so in no phyiscal danger whatsoever, the Cop was also smart to realize we weren't about to be to be intimidated and backed off, besides way too many witnesses.
"...we were not near the protests..."
I know you guys are smarter than that. The NP has a couple of stories of their own photogs and camera guy being detained.
As expected, the lack of action while the smashing went on, all of it being filmed, was all the more reason to arrest and confiscate equipment of the cops arresting alot of people not involved, especially after such folk with cameras made them look bad for not doing their job.
Seems there was some reactionary payback and an order fufilled to "just go out and arrest somebody".
As you know, Karma...
Bill Blair is an incompetent blob. Remember his statement after Toronto 19 terrorists were detained?
Sadly, there are officers like this all over.
I had a run-in with an officer on Whyte Avenue one evening who actually put his hands on me when I intervened in a verbal altercation with an acquaintance (my acquaintance had said something he didn't appreciate).
That officer at first tried to refuse to provide his badge number, until a lawyer in our group advised him he was not only at risk of facing assault charges, but legally obligated to provide the information demanded.
These guys are disgraces to their uniforms.
Hey, BCF, I know you've been busy this weekend harassing the police and all, but if you have time, take a look at the post that (Musings of a) Durotrigan put up on Sunday. It's amazing - a call to the British people to stop the Islamisation of their country now, or lose it; but a call with intelligence and leadership.
I don't how you came across this blogger, but he is quite a find. Thanks for linking to his blog last week. It has given me back some hope for the future of England.
What a duffus. kick his sorry butt BCF. He needs a lesson in humility. A public apology on bended knee would be appropriate. 3478 will go down in history as a putz of epic proportions.
I have some footage of the cops actually going through the pictures on the camera of someone they detained. Why the individual complied I have no idea.
Oh man. What a complete dick. Not only this guy a dick, he's stupid. "you're taxes pay about 5 cents of my salary hahaha." Their media relations officer is going to be having words with him, I can promise you that.
He is clearly not the brightest bulb.
I do not care when or where it was. When cops in riot gear tell you to move along then move along. This was no picnic. That includes journalists. They in particular were forwarned.
Well Hoarfrost for starters they weren't in Riot Gear as there was no riot any where near to where we were. You may wish to live in a society where your rights are fundamentally undermined on the arbitrary whim of an unprofessional cop. I don't.
Hello Toronto, welcome to my world.
I wouldn't be too tough on "Officer Friendly". He sounded more than a little peeved, like someone trying to figure out where he took a wrong turn and wound up inside "Imaginationland".
This is just the beginning....
Notice that one of the strongest motivators for the police NOT to act against lawbreakers was the 'fear' that videos of cops hauling off protesters would show up on YouTube. That is why they did not stand up to the lawless crowd in Ottawa at the Coulter visit, or the thugs burning cars in Toronto, or any other such thing.
The law-enforcement agents are especially afraid to be seen enforcing the law against any 'identified' minority group....
So, how do they deal with it?
Now, in the US, more and more States are making it ILLEGAL to videotape police officers while they are working.
As in, the public's only weapon against police misconduct - it is a witness that cannot be 'reasoned with' and shows what happened - is being denied to the citizens!
A person could be arrested and tossed into jail for the act of videotaping police brutality or police inactivity...
How long before officers like #3478 push for a law to muzzle us up here?
Scary thought as it is Xanth but I'm sure someone is considering it.
Dude - it could have been worse.
This 86-year old woman's grandson called 911 to get a paramedic to help her - instead, 10 cops arrived, stepped on her oxygen hose, thought her choking movements in her bed were threatening them so they tazed her.
Then they handcuffed her, ripping her flesh from her arms in the process...
You got off easy!
Hope this video link works
