You've really drunk the media Kool-Aid, haven't you? This statement is demonstrably false, as repeated studies have shown. AT MOST, about 1.8% of priests are abusers; the rate of offense by teachers may be as much as 100 times higher.

And the offenders have been protected by the church and moved around from place to place, only to offend again.

True in the past, though not quite to the degree that the newspapers would have you believe. Still, regrettable.

But what about in this decade? Here we see that the Church is now at the forefront of taking harsh, active response to allegations of abuse, in sharp contrast to how other institutions and industries are handling similar matters.

Ken – (10:51 AM): Addendum: That 1.8% abuse rate is actually remarkably low, lower than in most other professions where the phenomenon has been studied. Even secular counselors offend at a slightly higher rate, though if one allows for error one can basically say that the rates are the same.
