In what will be a defining moment in the Globe & Mail's long decline someone decided it would be a good idea to publish this paen to Multiculty guilt mongering; In a country defined by water, new Canadians at greater risk of drowning.
The headline should read: "New Canadians need integration to everything".
And so...we make a swimming test part of our citizenship exam? Congratulations to the Globe and Mail for another ground breaking piece of journalism excellence.
I'm not terribly worried about the fact that many of these people can't swim. I really couldn't care less. What really concerns me is that one of them will be hired as a lifeguard under 'affirmative action' guidelines.
Indeed - why all the lakes and rivers, the massive bay and the seas on three sides? So much more welcoming if we'd been a desert, no? I smell a conspiracy.

I work out at a gym where the members are largely South Asian. The gym has a nice 25 metre pool; I've never seen so many crappy (and I mean really crappy) "swimmers" in my life. That said, they do seem to enroll their children in swimming lessons.

I agree.
As an immigrant who can't swim, I always make sure I don't go into water I can't handle.
I'm also not used to the cold, so maybe the guberment can train us how to deal with it.

That's a keeper Sanwin and don't tell the Nanny-Staters about the cold issue - they'll insult you with an mandatory state sponsored course in hat wearing!
As for the whole "cold" thing, I suggest we pump all the spilled oil from the Gulf of Mexico into the Great Lakes, then set it on fire. It will only warm up Southern Ontario, but since that's where most new immigrants seem to move to, I think the prairies and the Maritimes will give us a Mulligan on this!
Ok but how do we greenwash it?
No need - just as the demands of accommodating multicultural ideology has trumped feminism, so accommodating new Canadians from more equatorial climates will supersede greeniness. I mean, it's not like anyone actually believes in the ecohyperbole, do they?

If, as many predict, global cooling is on the way, rm has just provided the ecoleft with their first set of new talking points.
It's natural selection in action. Only the brighter less stupid ones get to live long enough to pass along their survival skills and superior genes to the next generation.
I know cause I have passed mine along.....and believe me, it wasn't easy.
