This story is only just getting juicy...
I asked the Canadian Consulate to send me some educational materials about Canada.
They sent me a bilingual book about 'Aboriginal People telling their story' (they meant Red Indians, i was confused at first, thinking i'd got an Australian book by mistake).
It was all about how the Red Indians didn't use metal because bone was so much better and they didn't need medicines because their herbal remedies were so effective. Apparently they were also peace loving (i guess those Tomohawks were just for show) and democratic (without the voting)
A very odd introduction to Canada, a massively unconvincing and romanticised paen to a Stone Age culture.
And i'd always thought of Canada as a land of tough cheerful people with a pioneer spirit and heaps of common sense.
To be honest i was a bit disappointed.

I only want to address the issue of the lady who wanted after 9 years at home wanted to return to the work force. I share her disgust about the denials to employment that exist within our federal government but she should not think it is only in the Indian Affairs area. What I would really like to know is why someone with what appears to be a bit of initiative would want to work for the bloody government. I hope that she is a good conservative oriented person and will move on to better things. If she is not then all I can say is "serves you right for being a bloody liberal the guys that fostered this kink of crap for so long it is part of the culture of our snivel service..
