Toronto Star Linked To "Edits" Of Rob Ford Wikipedia Page

Update1: A competitor to my news media empire, the National Post, has picked up the story - Computer inside Toronto Star company edited Rob Ford’s Wikipedia entry “We’ve done an extensive investigation into this since it was brought to our attention.” Oh really? Since when? The commentor ES notified them via e-mail of this on Aug 5th - they couldn't even be bothered to tell him to buzz off, I have a copy of the e-mail below with ES's real name redacted.

Original post

Sharp eyed Rob Ford supporter ES has caught someone from an IP address traced to the Toronto Star "editing" Rob Ford's wikipedia page to include reference to a parody web site robfordmayor.com. Legal steps were taken against the parody site and its author elected to remove it. Check out comment no. 7 for ES's revelation of the wikipedia editor's identity.

I thought the Star had reached a new low when they hired Heather Mallick however this escapade shows a determined effort to plumb ever greater depths of left wing derangement. Papers are supposed to report the news, they should not be engaging in election hijinks.

If you were sitting on the fence before then this episode should confirm two things:

1) Never believe a word written in The Star
2) Your Vote for Rob Ford

The following jpegs tell the story:

IP Address 192.206.151.131 traced back to Toronto Star

All of Toronto Star IP Address'192.206.151.131 "edits" on Wikipedia Note July 16 2010 entries

Toronto Star IP Address 192.206.151.131 Adds "robfordmayor.com" to Rob Ford's Wikipedia page Note July 16 2010 date stamp

Update2: CBC vandalizes Wikipedia too! The horror! They're mockin Ben Mulroney!

Update3: The Sun Shines a light - "It is inaccurate, these allegations that we are editing Rob Ford's Wikipedia page," Bob Hepburn, a Star spokesman said. "We're actually adding brand new stuff and not editing existing content at all" Kiddin;)

Update4: Toronto Star Caught Editing Mayoral Candidate Rob Ford's Wikipedia Page

...
The Red Rag knew about the Wiki Edits from August 5th but chose to ignore the matter. Stay Classy Star!

Update: Well Hello There Toronto Star! Bout time you showed up;)

NB: The Star's visit duration has now exceeded 22 hours as of 10 AM Wed Aug 18th! Someone's sweatin a bit;) They've even takin to checking out the profiles of commenters on the post - such suspicious minds!

simus  – (12:12 AM)

Wouldn't Rot Stern's ombudsperson, and Ms What's-Her-Name the "correctional editor" need to be brought up to speed on what the more enthusiastic younger summer camp inmates have been up to? In the US, if a bit of juvenile crap like this could be traced back to a rich, inviting, target like RS, the plaintiff lawyers would be salivating and talking trade-ins with their yacht brokers.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (12:30 AM)

Even English don't speak english at the Rot Stern;) Oh you can bet a lawsuit will be comin out of this, they lied about the Football incident as well;)

bulletproofcourier  – (1:05 AM)

Oh Internet, I love you.
Never change.
XOXOXO

Blazing Cat Fur  – (1:06 AM)

The Star - too stupid for mere words;)

Patrick Ross  – (3:43 AM)

Who wants to be the Star won't bother mentioning this?

Blazing Cat Fur  – (6:39 AM)

Gee that's a shame Patrick. I was hopin for a mention in Mallick's column;)

scream  – (9:45 AM)

Wow, Bourque has linked to the story here. Let's hope this blows up.

been around the block  – (9:57 AM)

Is there an Ontario Press Council anymore? Someone should make a complaint about this to them.

It's a pretty incestuous bunch, like most of the CanLit/MSM crowd tends to be, but it would be worth a complaint, just for the record, for a paper trail.

What scumbags we have in journalism now. The morals of alley cats, along with the loud yowling.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (10:10 AM)

Yes I think Ford has a very good basis for a lawsuit and certainly a press complaint, not that the complaint would be more than a slap on the wrist.

Rose  – (11:20 AM)

That's despicable, absolutely unprofessional but so predictable of the modern left and their hatred towards Conservatives. Jebus lately the libtard journalists seem to be on melt down mode, the Chronically Offended had one urnalists infer Harper is onpar with Hitler.

First the libs divorced commonsense, then they buried their moral compass and alas now they've thrown ethics out to sea on a iceberg.

sanwin  – (1:34 PM)

You might want to make this thread sticky and at the top of the page for the next few days.. or at least till Ford is elected Mayor.

The Star should be not easily wriggle out of this one.

What a disgraceful bunch of pretend journalists.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (1:36 PM)

I'm hearin from 640am, but 3rd hand if you will that the Star is denying it was done by anyone connected to them. Hmmm.

sanwin  – (1:59 PM)

If it came from the IP address belonging to the Star, then they own the issue and they can deny it till they're red in the face. It won't mean squat.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (2:15 PM)

I haven't listened to the report yet on 640am but from what I've heard that about sums up it Sanwin, I see CBC has got into the act as well!

sanwin  – (2:21 PM)

Well, the Post has picked it up as well.

http://news.nationalpost.com/2010/08/17/computer-inside-toronto-star-company-edited-rob-fords-wikipedia-entry/

You do realize that you're making news, aren't you ?

;)

Christian Conservative  – (2:28 PM)

Looks like they've been caught Red-Star-Handed. ;-)

Al the fish  – (2:56 PM)

Wow, the NP metaphorically riding BCF's tail on this story! Well done ES and BCF.

I didn't realize TO could be considered the Chicago of the North when it comes to dirty municipal politics.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (2:58 PM)

It's really just the Chicago Hotdog, without the dog, just a stale bun.

Van Grungy  – (3:54 PM)

Ah the Red Star...

They hate me in the comment moderator cubicles...

Paul  – (4:02 PM)

“We’ve done an extensive investigation into this since it was brought to our attention.” says Bob Hepburn.

MEMO TO BOB HEPBURN
... good to hear there Bobby.
But at least come clean about whether it was a Commie Hutt or a Rabid Moe that made the entry.

(First falsifying murder reports and now this? my. my.

http://www.thestar.com/opinion/editorialopinion/article/813276--english-an-unforgivable-error )

Blazing Cat Fur  – (4:29 PM)

That's good imagery VanG I envision a galley slave like setting;)

Thanks for the link Paul, I feel much better;)

Patrick Ross  – (4:34 PM)

It isn't as if the Toronto Star has any journalistic integrity. They waver back and forth between propagandizing, covering-up the latest leftist scandal, and basic anti-conservative bloviating.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (4:37 PM)

True Patrick, this can't possibly damage their reputation any further.

been around the block  – (5:13 PM)

rose: "Jebus lately the libtard journalists seem to be on melt down mode, the Chronically Offended had one urnalists infer Harper is onpar with Hitler."

LOL! Sad but true.

It's like the Beast has been mortally wounded, the spear is through its heart and it's thrashing its tail in pain, trying to take out anyone it can.

These leftards are, please God, in their death throes. Only problem is, they're hurting and they're fighting dirty. They're not going down without a huge fight and you can be sure they'll be hitting below the belt.

We can't be dismayed. This is how these guys operate. We do need to be alert and prepared: Forewarned is forearmed.

Fenris Badwulf  – (6:22 PM)

How surprising that the employees of the Toronto Star would meddle in the political process.

I hope they get bedbugs, these dirty operatives.

Revnant Dream  – (6:43 PM)

Now this is real Journalism. You not only have the smoking gun BCF. You own the bullets as well.
The Red Star bleeds.

Revnant Dream  – (7:17 PM)

PS this is what I wrote at the NP

“We’re trying to track it down to which computer it came from, which may be impossible to do,” said Mr. Hepburn.

Yeah sure it is? The Paper lies, gee what a shock.
News flash, just check the Systems administration. Boy these folks are contemptible, thinking where this stupid. Its an insult to all Canadians. Not to mention a so called Media outlet playing politics by stealth.
Even in its low days the National Inquirer wouldn't have done this.
Liberal wonder why "Progressive" MSM papers are going extinct? They need look no farther than stunts like this. Remember Dan Rather!!

Something's up !

Due to staffing issues comments will be closed on all stories at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 at thestar.com. We apologize for any inconvenience.

http://www.thestar.com/specialsections/article/742759--note-to-readers-comments-closed-on-thestar-com

Blazing Cat Fur  – (8:15 PM)

Hah they buckled due to the Rising Tide of Anger!

The Phantom  – (10:21 PM)

I love how "difficult" it is for them to "track down" which computer was used for this.

Read the logs, dumbass.

Oh and Mr. Star Apparatchik, if you check my Google account you'll get BUPKIS, because that's what I put on there.

Hicks  – (10:21 PM)

Now, it doesn't even say 'due to staffing issues', it just says all comments are going to be disabled.

Whoops.

sanwin  – (10:26 PM)

The shit has truly hit the fan.

I think they went too far in trying to get Slitherman elected.

Blazing Cat Fur  – (10:46 PM)

Thanks for the update Hicks. I hope Sanwin that this is pursued further, up to Ford though.

Voltaire's Ghost  – (11:04 PM)

For years the Star has been a sign of the overall dumbing-down of Canada's newpapers. In a way we should be grateful because The National Post was partially created as a backlash to its idiocy.

But with the Star and the Globe competing for the left-leaning readership, it looks like the Star was really trying hard to get out front by going over-the-top in Ford bashing. One of the True Believers over there took it all too seriously and now they're engaged in a Nixonian cover-up?

Could this be.... SiddiquiGate?

Blazing Cat Fur  – (11:08 PM)

SiddiquiGate? I like that!

Paul  – (11:36 PM)

BCF, nice of Toronto Life to introduce their reader(s) to the wit and wisdom of Blazing Cat Fur.

The hilarity just doesn't stop when with total smug aplomb they link to highlights like "Bite Me".

http://www.torontolife.com/daily/informer/mayor-may-not/2010/08/17/rob-ford-endorsed-by-the-blog-that-organized-everybody-draw-mohammed-day/

Blazing Cat Fur  – (7:01 AM)

Thanks Paul I notice Little Johnny at Tornto Life is bereft of support and friends.

Thanks Donald as well!

The Phantom  – (12:23 PM)

Hey Fur, I left little Johnny a message too.

I can't believe Toronto Life employs guys as lame as that. He's got nothing better to do than riff on bloggers? WTF?

Blazing Cat Fur  – (12:32 PM)

It's a pretty sad day for the establishment in Toronto all round I'd say Phantom.

Al the fish  – (1:03 PM)

Star-gate 2010:

Starring ? and the Mysterians as investigating bloggers ES and BCF, who easily prove that MSM outlets act like the paplum dispensers they've become.

Coming to a theatre near you soon.

"If you were sitting on the fence before then this episode should confirm two things:
1) Never believe a word written in The Star
2) Your Vote for Rob Ford"

I know this is your blog dude/lady/whatever but re-actively voting for someone based on a scandal is just as bad as listening to actual politicians.I know Toronto Star is biased against Rob Ford. That's why I decided to search and see if anyone else has been tracking the recent mudslinging by Tor Star. I come up with this.
And it's cool buddy/ma'am/overlord because I see something wrong as well.

However, voting for someone means you're supposed to put your trust in someone to be in charge, correct? So putting your trust in someone, to you, means trusting everyone else less?

That's the kind of innovative thought that has turned every political campaign a bunch of hand wringing fogies in back rooms plotting the next move against their opponents.

It's this lack of vision that has the public very distrusting of their politicians, because it's not longer about vision and moving forward. It's about keeping the enemy in your sights and taking them out at first notice.I'm finding fewer and fewer newspapers and journalists I can trust anymore. Everyone has an agenda or a paycheck that depends on someone else's agenda.
