Did Hiva get the heave?
Is the Muslim Council Of Montreal throwing Hiva Mohammad Alizadeh to the wolves? This e-mail from the MCM asks for legal defense funds only for Khurram Sher and Misbahuddin Ahmed whom the council believes (what else is new?) to be "wrongly incarcerated". They also appeal for funds to be used to fight "Islamophobia" - I'd feel better if the funds were directed to preventing "Islamoblowinupinfidels". So why no effort to raise funds for Hiva? Too guilty to risk the time, effort and money? Did Hiva turn? Lottsa questions.

We would like your support for our brothers Khurram Sher and Misbahuddin Ahmed who, we believe, have been wrongfully incarcerated in Ontario. A legal fund has been established to defend Muslims' Rights and Civil Liberties, as well as to challenge cases of hate, defamation or Islamophobia against our community. The first order of business is to establish a strong legal defence team for Khurram and Misbah to free them from custody. This requires a great deal of funds and we are making an appeal to you to come forward in whatever way you can.

Strange. I did a search for MCM at the Charity Division of the Canada Revenue Agency, at:

and came up with nothing. How can an organization promise a tax receipt if it is not listed as a CRA charity?

Okay, Malik and dmurrel beat me to the punch here. But the tax receipt line jumped out at me too.
No, as I understand it, legal defense fund contributions are NOT tax deductible (just ask Ezra, who is always careful to point that out when reluctantly asking for help). And I would be unpleasantly surprised if zakat money could be diverted to this purpose. Perhaps CRA does need to be briefed on this.
However, since one of the purposes of zakat is to fund jihad ... well, draw your own conclusions.
