How do you solve a problem like inexorable cluelessness?
"The feds are bowing out of the censorship battle, leaving only "civil liberties groups" and clueless Jews (who, mind-bogglingly, still don't get the whole free speech thing) fighting the squalid struggle to retain the fascist censorship provision in our "human rights" legislation."
Gutless Feds, Section 13 is a bad law, badly administered by the ideologically corrupt CHRC.

"inexorable cluelessness"? Sounds like a speech therapy test. I surrender.
It seems the new improved Orwellian thinking might be that this evil will eventually be handed off to compliant "cells" within the police and courts. That way the governments blur the issue and don't have to confront the civil service while halfheartedly attempting to excise these hideous growths threatening our freedom.
...Scaramouche once again nails this whole French farce called the (cough) Hyman Rights Commission bang-on.
... so it looks like Bernie, David and Simon will all be in the same bed as Wahida. Now, I know she's woman enough for all of them but really, you would think they could do do better!
BCF, I see that Brean has got a real hard-on about this blog. (as in this is a "hate" group and "extreme right-wing".) Me thinks, we should all take a moment to pause and remember who pays his salary
And to be sure, when so called "journalists" start using words like "extreme right-wing" (what does that mean?), as (cough) facts, they're on the ropes, no doubt about it.
@dm (carried over.)
You're one of Bubble Boy's Jew Crew aren't you? (and if not, you should be.)
But really, if you actually think that the word "slut" is immoral as compared to let's say purveying PORNOGRAPHY that IS ADBUSTERS, you've got a whole lot of issues that warrant seeing a good shrink, in my humble opinion.
And nope, checked NP and didn't see anything by Faber so I'm not sure what you are talking about.
As far as Ms. Reisman being threatened, personally I know her as a very capable woman and a shameless self-promoter.
(I'm confident she can take care of herself as far as attacks from from the likes of Judy Rebick gaiming for a cat-fight.)
That is all.
Perhaps you should light a candle to the idol of Otto von Bismarck, and take a dose of realpolitik.
While free speech may be important to you, and a pain in the wallet to the milky white HRC ability challenged apparatus, it is neither an election winner for Harper, nor something to stir up the base. So, for expediency, it is ignored.
What more can I say? There is no free speech in this country.
And, just to disagree with myself, I should note that things are ramping up in our southern neighbour. A Yankee candidate has suggested that violence is an option.
Now we cannot have violence in our political system. Unless it is left wing, of course. So we need to have free speech suppressed, or things will get out of hand. When the rest of the pensions go trans tits up, the Weimar-zed middle class just might get itchy for Hope and Change, a la mode guillotine. So, for the sake of the aristocrats, we should just accept slavery to the non workers.
Is that vague enough for you?
I wish we had the Guillotine in our History - so we could bring it back;)
... I'd settle for a English pillory and 200 pound stone-of-shame be pushed around Nathan Philips Square.
Its obvious that the "Conservatives" reserve the right to tell you what to say or think.
Harper has really dropped the ball on this.
Harper is making the smart political decision.
My sense is that given the opportunity he would slash this whole friggin French farce in a New York minute.
He just doesn't need a headache a at this time from the likes of Bernie, Frankie, Jimbo Jazeera and Simon.
I believe Harper will lose the next election because he has aliented the rank and file over so many issues, Section 13 being just one item in a very long list.
He may have bought himself a few moments peace in the short term, he will enjoy a much greater respite when he's voted out of power.
Conservatives will not be motivated to vote in the next election. I see very little worth supporting.
Good points and very true. He really should get back to his Reform roots.
Having said that, my motivaiton in voting for him would simply be that he's NOY Iggy.
(if you think it's bad now, sad to say, it would be a whole lot worse.)
... AND this $10 billion prison expansion thing has got to be as hare-brained as you get.
Really, with the likes of the RCMP and MTPS being as dysfunctional as they are, it would take all of two years to fill these facilities right up to to the rafters.
Even the spectre of Iggy won't motivate conservatives. Harper has backed off from every conservative stand he has ever held.
I wouldn't write him off just yet.
There's a lot of swirving that you need to do when you are a minority gov't.
AND I do admire and respect his core principles which as hard as I look, I can't seem to find in Iggy.
I am toying with the idea of not voting in the next federal election. I agree that Harper now embraces Red Toryism full bore. Essentially, in domestic politics, his only speechmaking revolves around announcing local porkbarrelling projects (under the "Canada Economic Action Plan"). These days, Harper refuses to answer questions from the media. When Harper decides to emulate Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach, you know the Conservatives are in trouble.
I consede that the Conservatives oppose the gun registry, and make faint gestures towards a law-and-order stance -- and that they (still) support Israel against a hostile anti-Jewish media -- but that is the only areas that Harper still shows "small-c" leanings. That's it. So no federal Conservative lawn signs for me.
I agree David not alot there to get fired up about. I am assured by people that the Liberal stance on Israel is identical to the Conservatives, meaning no shift in votes from the associated demographic's traditional LPC support making Harper's stance on S 13 all the more useless and alienating.
"I am assured by people that the Liberal stance on Israel is identical to the Conservatives"
BCF, I only know someone by their actions.
So let's remember Iggy and his views on Hezbollah.
I also know someone by their integrity.
I know Harper as a man who is well grounded, principled and with deep personal integrity.
From what I've seen and know of Iggy, he without a doubt, has the integrity and moral fibre of a Canadian Muslim Cleric.
And let's not forget that "all politics is local."
Harper is politically savvy enough to know with the likes of Jimbo Jazeera and his peers at the helm of Toronto's Jewish community, namely Bernie, Frankie and Simon being the chief proponents of Section 13, stepping aside is the smart move.
If you're looking to change Section 13, it just ain't gonna happen with these self-aggrandizing characters.
And yes, there is still enough Moses running in my Jewish blood to know a Golden Calf when I see one.
To be clear, Section 13 being intended to curtail OUR RIGHTS, to these so called community leaders is expendable; - it being in THEIR PERSONAL SELF-INTEREST to whoop up the minions with the idolatry THAT IS THE CHRC.
Really, the change has to happen in the Jewish community leadership before ANY politician will get into this hornet's nest.
Paul I agree however these are people from within the Jewish community who assure me they have nothing to fear from an LPC victory, therefore very few votes will go to the PC's despite Harper's best efforts.
... and we trust these LPC people because????????
I say it's time for other Jewish leaders to step-up to the plate.
(the Liberals I know are all lying bastards so that should make it easier for someone to come forward, one would think)
Until then, one can do what one can do.
Frankly as far as I can see. Harpers only hope is to come forward with proposals that have fangs. He has to rise above benign to the sublime.
Like his first campaign, give us solid meat, not dark feed pallid veal.
Harper is going to have show his face, give this Country a dream & finally stop the drift into a totalitarian State.
It gets worse by the year like being in a cloud of smoke with a fire chasing you. People know it, the smoke of oppression has lain on us blanket like. The liberals would only make it go faster down that road. Frankly I wouldn't trust Liberals about any Jewish matter. Historically they have been the most bigoted. Just read Trudeau's speeches if you can stomach them.
JMO
Harper has become just another politician I suppose it is inevitable for anyone.
One day we will have a Geert Wilders.
... mediocrity IS our cultural standard.
