I liked "Peace Train" and a few cuts off of C. Stevens's first album ("Tea for the Tillerman"). As I recall the first album was "peace" oriented. But Stevens for the longest time quit writing and playing music -- as Yusuf Islam -- after his coversion to the one-and-only-one True Religion (since Islam forbids music). Music is only for decadent kuffars.
He has returned to producing music, with a pro-Islam slant -- probably to lure young people to Islam. He has recorded one album, and as is posted he hob-bobs with charity types and leftists.
I would provide the link to Wikipedia, but the article refuses to discuss his pro-Islamofascist statements. The article is essentially a white wash of the man.
So today I refuse to listen to any Cat Stevens stuff. In the same way I refuse to listen to any Richard Wagner. Once they commit to the dark side, that's it.
dmurrell - Tea For The Tillerman wasn't Stevens' first record - it was just the first one we'd heard over here; there were three before that, and his British stardom began with him being marketed as a sort of neo-folkie heartthrob. There was a bout with TB that derailed him for a couple of years, after which he signed with Island records and began his '70s string of hits. And yeah, no one seems to want to address his Islamist sympathies in the music industry. That clan closes ranks faster than a Greek phalanx.
He's a major link in my pet theory that the '60s weren't a surge in liberalism, but an explosion of ideological fundamentalism that will naturally seeks its intellectual kin, which links to my other pet theory that the Muslim world is going through its own '60s right now, fuelled by the rebellion of a demographically dominant youth and fanned by cynical elder opportunists.

Islam sings Cooke: http://scaramouchee.blogspot.com/2010/10/how-can-you-restore-sanity-with-fatwa.html
He admires Khomeiny, like Michel Foucauld.
Seen here with his wife covered from head to toe.

That is not the Cat Stevens I lined up all night in January to get tickets for a Massey Hall concert for.

Good article by Roger L. Simon over at Pajamas Media:
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert: Are They Pro-Islamofascist or Just Stupid?

Hmm that is an interesting set of theories Rick. It seems to fit the Islamic zeitgeist.
Thanks for the that Link Batb.
"Oh so that's what happened to Cat Stevens..."
The Koran is what!
