Funny thing - I've got one of those green kafiyehs. I bought it at an army surplus place before I went off to spend a week w/Can troops about to deploy to Afghanistan, who were training at a US base in the Mojave. The salesman said that most guys deploying bought one, as it was great for keeping the sand out of their mouths. The non-Pali version is apparently called a "shumagg." No one batted an eye at the camp.

There seems to be some misunderstanding about keffiyeh. It's understandable that most people see it as a symbol of racial oppression. But I'm wondering if I can get over that first impression and wear one as a symbol of NO DHIMMITUDE

Thoroughly depressing shit.
This is where the West has been heading after decades of postmodern claptrap and mumbo-jumbo being taught in university faculties of arts, education, psychology, anthropology, and womyn’s studies. I’m not entirely up on what’s being taught in grade school and high school but all teachers have been exposed to it. And BC recently introduced an optional high school course in “Social Justice” that covers the same material. Race theory, diversity, multiculturalism, social justice, white privilege, white hegemony, white supremacy are all standard terminology and concepts drilled into the brains of every student. It’s taken as gospel - there’s no doubt about it for any but the strongest, most independent of thinkers among them.
Now it’s being pushed on the general public by the likes of the city of Edmonton. It’s all part of the of “the West’s remorseless slide into oblivion” [(Copywrite)Mark Steyn].
I try not to get too personal on the interwebs - secret identity and all - but I'd like to, um, "share" two things, if I may. 1) My very white Ukrainian baba, who lived in Edmonton for 80 years, was a neglected orphan whose mother was apparently murdered by the Germans when she (baba) was a tiny girl. My grandmother largely cared for her baby sister when she herself was a little child, she never spent a day in school and did hard farm labour for most of her life, including raising a child (in Canada) during the Depression. After several decades her family made it into what I'd categorize as the moneyed petty-bourgeoisie. Nothing unusual about her story; hundreds of thousands have similar ones. What "white privilege" did she ever recieve? When did she ever ask for it? She never oppressed anyone. True, she did think Indians were drunks and Catholics weren't Christians, but then she thought everyone who wasn't a fundamentalist Baptist was a non-Christian drunk, so that's really nothing to get offended about.
(BTW, my grandparents' ancestors were chattel until 1848. I've occasionally tried to figure out where Iggy's progenitors owned serfs, because that would be so sweet......)
2) I spend more hours per week with mostly black kids in a pretty dodgy neighborhood than most of the scum involved in this ugly, stupid, racist campaign (I'd bet). It's all such nonsense. If you come from a decent family, being black or indian is a huge advantage, because things are set up to favour such kids. If you come from a family of sluttish, ambition-hating drug-abusing alcoholic illiterates then you've got bad problems quite irrespective of race.
Sorry to be over-long, but this kind of thing... is best viewed as funny, I guess.
Oh, and I do love the Kaffiyah chick (if she were pretty she'd look like Kristen Scott Thomas). So, just to be clear... hating Jews is cool again, right?

The problem with Edmonton is the University, & being the bureaucrat center of Alberta.
Frankly except for a few districts we vote like Calgary for the most part.
In the Trudeau years no one voted for Liberals, even Liberals while he was in power.
Taking off from that old commercial where the woman says; "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful", I say, "don't hate me because I'm white".
It's not whites who are obsessed with their colour or other peoples' - it's everyone else who obsesses over it.

As for the keffiyeh, it pissed me off so much I searched for Jewish keffiyehs & sure enough I found some. They are blue & white emblazoned with a Star of David design and a prayer & come in several other colors too. There is also a keffiyeh worn by the IDF.
It's my push back and at least I know why I'm wearing it ,unllike many idiots who don the "palestinian" keffiyeh
