Drop Bell Canada as your service provider - Today... er... maybe not
Update from a reader: Hi BCF, Love your site but I wanted to info you that Bell TV will carry the new SunNews. I do admit that they ask you to answer a questionaire about it, but WTF, eh?
Bell Canada won’t be carrying SunTV
Ya know I am sick and tired of living in a Banana Republic. Crony capitalism coupled with socialism is a poisonous mix.

Oh brother, what a hassle. I have Rogers for cable, but now I'll have to switch phone and internet - and I will!
We desperately need real competition in this country, instead we have feifdoms that have made a very few very rich.
Dang, I guess this means I won't be checking out the new, Bell-sponsored Whitecaps.
Kneecap Bell and we'll forgive you that;)
Just got off the phone with Rogers and the sales guy couldn't tell me if they'll be carrying SUN. WTF?
Well let's see. In early September 2010 Bell Canada buys CTV News. Bell Canada has always been a hotbed of Liberals (Michael Sabia, then head of BCE, donated thousands of dollars to the Liberals). The former head of CTV, Ivan Fecan, donated thousands more to the Liberals. He even hosted fund-raising parties for the Liberals.
And as was posted on this BCF site, recently CTV News appointed the former head of the Liberal party, Jack Fleischmann, to be its president:

Gee, I wonder if CTV News will cover the election fairly? Well, they have one Lisa LaFlamme covering the national Liberal campaign team. And gee, she is slobbering pro-Liberal platitudes, not making one criticism at all against her Liberal icon, with each of her reports.
The reason why Bell Canada won't carry SunNews is because they, Bell Canada, are corrupt. They received a phone call from Jack Fleischmann.
Everyone should e-mail the entire Tory blogosphere, to spread the word, to ask people to drop Bell Canada as a service provider. Create facebook pages. Create new web pages -- to boycott Bell Canada.
We have to be like dissidents in authoritarian countries, to use the internet to get the word out. The national Toronto-based media are corrupt. There is no other word for it.
Sorry for consecutive posts, but I just thought of something. Bell Canada refusing to carry SunTV may be in breech of The Anti-Combines Act. I.e, they may be breaking a criminal law.
Bell Canada owns CTV News, a competitor of Sun News (the former is carried by Bell Canada). Bell Canada may be rejecting SunTV to protect the market share of CTV News -- a breech of anti-combines legislation.
Someone ahould make a complaint to Industry Canada on this.

Thanks David & Scream lots to chew on there hopefully Bell can be nailed.
I live in a rural area, and have Bell satellite service, I sent a request regarding SUN News a couple of weeks ago and go the same canned response. I guess I'll have to wait and see if Shaw satellite carries it and if so make the switch. They are the only 2 options I have.
Man do we need to open things up in this country.
@DM,
If you think CTV is biased, at least they ran Harper's speech in Halifax this morning. The CBC didn't, but ran a synopsis of it and then ran Duceppe followed by Ignatieff response in their entire length.
And Sue Hannah did it in such a straight-faced way. (I think she fancies herself as some sort of Barbra Kay but without the intelligence, good looks, personality and charm.)
Not so sure if this is true. Just got off the phone with Bell and was told it will be offered on basic, which is ideal. Nothing on their website though.
Paul: Heather Hiscox of CBC Morning is a raving pro-Liberal. She bare knows how to conceal her corrupt deceit.
Btw: the original web site report may not be all that true. There is nothing annouced formally yet. I would be hard put to believe they would refuse to carry SunNews at all. Carriers carry have such patently stupid channels in the uppse levels. (The Fitness channel?)
If Bell Canada would formally announce that they would not be carrying SunTV, that would create the outrage of the election campaign. Hell would erupt.
I hope Steve is right and Bell Canada puts SunTV on the lower basic channels. Let's face it. SunTV once on the air will captute a huge chunk of viewship -- given the corruption at CBC and CTV.
One thing I do know about Pierre-Karl Peladeau is that he may not be a ugly as the old man, but he is just as tough and mean.
[Quebecor started with a scrappy paper in Montreal called Allo Police!. If they thought they could take on the Mafia in Montreal, I'm sure they'll have no problem taking on Bay Street's Media Mafia.]
[mind you they did do Campeau in when he got to big for his britches.]
Thanks Steve I will see what I can dig up.
Did you just say socialism with crony capitalism sucks?
Cool, I agree with that 100%
As for these alphabet telecom companies, fuck em they're not playing ball.

This is what I sent Shaw TV Calgary by email yesterday morning:
"Sun TV is starting on April 18. Please add it to my package. Email me to confirm that will happen. Thanks!"
This is what I got back from them this morning:
"Good morning Don, thank you for your e-mail dated April 2, 2011.
The debut of the Sun TV News Channel has been delayed multiple times, but it is currently set for an April 18th launch.
However, Sun TV does not currently have licensing or carriage agreements with the major cable and satellite providers in Canada yet, including Shaw Cable."
"Assuming that the April 18th launch date does not change again, we anticipate having more information regarding the availability of Sun TV News on Shaw by the second week of April."
"Unfortunately, we do not have any additional information available at this time. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with, or feel free to contact us through our Live Chat at http://www.shaw.ca/chat.
Thank you and have a great day.
