George Carlin Wasn’t Funny: The Top Five Most Overrated Comedians
Yeah, I’m a heretic. I also fell asleep during Star Wars.
Bruce Springsteen? Pompous blowhard.
The Godfather? Long stretches of beige nothingness.
And The Who are better than The Beatles.
(Hell, I prefer The Monkees to The Beatles…)
But here’s the first “pop culture” contrarianism I’m a teensy bit afraid to confess in public:
George Carlin never made me laugh...
Never saw star wars-don't care
springsteen sucks
Godfather rocks!
Was the first one on my block to buy "Live at Leeds" cost 1 buck
My best pal back mid sixties little sister loved the monkees. me nah
We got a kick out of the seven words as early 20 somethings . sort of like when you were 12 and put your hand under your armpit
Happy New Year;)
I enjoyed Kathy's rant (I always do). Although, I'm a Star Wars nut and would love to get the boxed set of the original trilogy -- not the prequel series (tell her not to roll her eyes).
And I liked George Carlin, at least some of the time. I mostly enjoyed his rants on the "Save the Planet" do-gooders.
Oh, and back to movies, I'm with on The Godfather - yawn. Of course, I also feel that way about Citizen Kane, though in fairness, I've never been able to watch the entire film (the longest I've lasted is 40 minutes before I fall asleep).
I agree, Carlin was not that funny. The beatles did suck. I just never liked the white album. Not rockin enough for me.
But Dane Cook belongs on the top three spots of that list. He's not only overrated, but beyond UN-funny. The guy sucks.
IMO, it's easier to come up with a list of funny comics. Because most of them suck.
That's a good point.
Godfather was teh awesome. She's karazy on that one though.
It was his rants that I enjoyed. Especially his hypocrisy rants.
He did some OK stuff, can't agree with K on him entirely, but the stoner stuff got old fast, the Godfather was OK in my books too though ultimately too hagiographic of what is ultimately a murderous criminal sub-culture.
Never really listened to his comedy though I did like him in "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." As for the others-- I am ambivalent towards.
I am probably one of thirty people on the planet who thinks Batman is overrated.

George Carlin on Global Warming
...I like this one Carlin moment..
George was sometimes mildly amusing; Bob Hope/ Red Skelton, et al, were funny:

Cheers
It is good.
Never was into the beatles, they were actually just a little ahead of me and wouldn't have mattered anyway. Apparently, you had to be dabbling in the drug culture to 'get it'.
Same with sitcom funny man Robin Williams not...I guess you had to be on crack at the same time he was which was apparently at least whenever he was on stage.
Carson must have cringed everytime this high smart ass was forced on him.
A funny sitcom guy who I thought was way under rated for his expressions and timing was cousin Larry on Perfect Strangers. he was the straight man to steal the show. Balki was just playing an idiot like Robin Williams, cousin Larry had the tough dual role.
Another guy who never made me laugh for all the hype about him was Robin's hero Johnathan Winters and similar style Tim Conway. They may as well have been Jerry Lewis. No wonder Dean Martin dropped that piece of excess luggage when he grew up with Frank and the Rat Pack.
Loved Bob Hope. He was easy and face value funny to all.
Most of all, he was courageous and about the only person out of Hollywood, loyal to the troops
Yes he was.
Lewis I never got at all, never.
