Call honour crimes what they are
"...it’s important to understand honour crimes for exactly what they are. They are not ordinary acts of domestic violence carried out in a fit of rage. Instead, they are carefully premeditated acts that are designed to remove the stain of a wife or daughter’s sexual misconduct (real or imagined) from the family name"
putting the training of people in place: isnt that what islamist want? a system isnide our system...
only having polititions and police authoritys that know the extreme dire were all in because of 1400 years of a cancer that has but one motive is where we need to be. and banning all islamist footings.. burka. mosque and ashura parades.. period
There is no good or evil, right or wrong, they are irrelevant, inconsequential, in Islam - only a warped sense of shame or honor dictates their actions. It's difficult for so called culturally relevant Canadians to comprehend such a diabolical set of 'ethics' so they don't.
Barbara Kay did not mention "cultural competency" training for the police. That means not sending female police officers who wear the hijab to investigate/question females from Muslim families who are alleging abuse from family members or suspect they will be a victim of an honor killing. Nor should hijab or burka wearing Muslim social workers oversee such investigations.
Reminds me of Rifqa Barry, she fled to a Christian home, knowing she would be killed for her apostasy. She told the authorities and the courts about the abuse, yet she was not believed by DCF workers - her father and mother denied the allegations.

Multiculturalism gives cover to all the institutional agencies and their proxies that failed Aqua Parvez and the murdered Shafia females. What prevented teachers, the police and social services from being aware of the mortal danger these young females were in.
When we have a public broadcaster that presents a series such as "Little Mosque..." but never produces a mini documentary on the life of Aqua Parvez we should be asking why? There are more young Muslim females living a live like Aqua Parvez then the daughter in "Little Moque...."
When a CBC broadcaster, tries to undermine a judge's rebuke to the three convicted Shafia murders by attempting to apply the political correct narrative, then we know they are trying to cover up their dishonesty.
But there is something more insidious going on when you contrast how Aqua Parvez and Omar Khadr and his siblings have been treated and protected by the MSM, the lawyers and the courts.
Did the media and the Omar Khadr lobbyists rush to raise funds to get dear Aqua a headstone because even in death her family, tribe and community continued to punish her. Did every frik'in Imam in Canada hold fund raisers to get a headstone for her - never.
Long after the convicted Shafia murders have exhausted all of their legal options will CBC or any other Canadian film company do a story about them - I'm not holding my breath. But my oh my the airways, MSM news blogs and good old CBC and the Omar Khadr lobbyists will saturate every media platform about a convicted murderer' rights to live as a free man in a western democracy. But the same group remain silent about the rights of young Muslim females to live freely why does this group act in a way that says terrorist Omar Khadr rights are a much more worthy pursuit than the lives of Aqua Pervez and the Shaifa murdered females.
Very well said Ann, they have woven a perverse narrative.
I agree there should be no accommodations made, they serve to mask what is really happening.
I stand to be corrected, but wasn't bloggers like BCF, FOF and Atlas Shrugs that got the word out that her death was denied by the absence of a headstone?
The CBC staff are cowardly criminals - aiding and abetting.
Zaib Shaikh, star of little mosque on the prairie, is married to the CBC's executive program director Kristine Stewart. Not hard to determine who controls who.
They will probably hold a party for Omar Khadr and give him an acting job - a permanent part in little mosque on the prairies' cast . The title is a blasphemy - stealing the name of a Christian wholesome program as they do with churches, destroy them and then turn them into mosques.
Mask is right, in more ways than one- these sects hide their true intentions and seek positions of influence for that purpose (nice word choice -double entendre).
The authorities just don't get, or want to get, that it's the culture itself that is abusive.
Yes.
I think that CBC will give Omar Khadr a seat at the Peter Mansbridge's "At Issue" panel. Better still, CBC will replace Evan Soloman political program and give Omar his own political program.
Hell he'll be groomed as Peter's replacement;)
Exactly there should be no accommodations of any kind.
Many countries have spent centuries getting rid of the practice of suttee in India. It has more or less worked. The same can be applied to honor killing. All it takes is the will and the balls to do it.
Though I usually agree with Barbara Kay on most issues, on this one I have grave reservations about her wanting specially trained social workers, educators, police to deal with the kinds of issues with which the Shafia girls were dealing.
It's usually all of these "specially trained/culturally sensitive" folks who royally screw things up. All of these cases should be treated the same, regardless of the background of those being bullied or brutalized: no more two-tier system to accommodate the "cultural" practices of visible minorities, please.
It appears that when officials are dealing with Muslims they're afraid to intervene -- and this has got to stop. If Muslim girls and women are being threatened with abuse and/or violence or are being abused, they should be treated in exactly the same way that any other threatened or abused girl or woman is treated.
It's been precisely the "cultural" accommodations entertained by "enlightened, culturally sensitive" progressives that have created the inertia on the part of the officials involved with the Shafias which resulted in their demise. If these officials had dealt with Zainab, Sahar, Geeti, and Rona the same way they would have dealt with non-visible minority girls and women in similar circumstances, these Muslim females would probably be alive today.
You bet, Mohammad Shafia would be furious and breathing fire but a Muslim male's -- or the Muslim community's -- reaction to Canada's protection laws for their womenfolk shouldn't even come into the equation. Unfortunately, Muslim reaction very much comes into the equation, with disastrous results -- always for the girls and women.
BTW, where the hell are the feminists on this? AWOL, as usual. 'No money to be made off abuse of Muslim females.
Like you I was impressed with Barbara Kay's solution.
Me bad, I meant to say: Like you I was not impressed with Barbara Kay's solution.
Can you imagine this scenario playing out:
A woman seeks help from social services and tells a social worker in confidence that she is being terrorized, beaten and treated like a prisoner by her husband. The social worker then makes a home visit and violates the confidentiality of meeting by disclosing to the husband/partner what was said. What are the chances the man would be facing the police not some social worker. So as Batb asked why wasn't the father and brother hauled out of that house and questioned downtown cause that is what other Canadian men would have faced?
I agree there is no need for a "separate muslim social work system" they should be treated equally not differently. Cultural sensitivity is just another name for politically correct cowardice.
I was wondering the same thing when I read a Globe article that said a Muslim volunteer accompanies social workers on visits etc in London Ont. to present honourable alternatives to parents of at risk children so they don't have their children taken away - somehow I'm doubtful other "groups" are accorded the same option.
Social workers are trained to recognize that in the Muslim culture the man speaks for the women, so they are told to look at and speak to the women when asking questions, but expect the man to answer. However, that should not have stopped the social worker from speaking to the women in private - unless the social worker was a male then he could only speak with the male.
Any word as to whether the social workers were male or female or if the social worker was a hijab wearing Muslim women or Muslim male?
correction: if it was a male social worker, he would speak with the women in the presence of a male.
I do not know, if it has been reported as to whether the social workers were male or female. If it has I've missed it.
I hope the phones are ringing off the hook at these agencies with angry citizens tearing a strip off them for what the what happened to these women.
It should be clear that these honour based cultures are not and never will be compatible with Canadian values. If anything stupid multiculturalism protected the Shaif father and son and left the murdered women defenceless against them.
The Muslim volunteer is probably the one who calls the shots then; the social worker may feel compelled to defer to the cultural wisdom of the volunteer. A volunteer is not liable to the same degree an employee is either - a win win for the social worker, the ministry, the volunteer - everyone except the victim.
I'd like to know which culture those honourable alternatives are coming from - honour to one culture is dishonour to another.
Not only that, Ann and BCF, Atlas Shrugs helped to fund and erect a headstone in Israel to honour the memory of Aqsa Parvez (and other victims of Muslim honour killings):

;-) I knew what you meant, Ann. Thanks for your comments. Well-said.
You can see what a mish-mash the status -- aka non-status -- of Muslim females makes of any attempts to help them.
If social services interventions have to be mediated through the Muslim male who is the abuser nothing's going to change and the lives of the women/girls being abused continue to be in jeopardy.
No, handle these situations the same way all other abuse situations are handled -- and make sure Muslim women have safe houses they can go to with long-term help offered.
If Muslim men insist on abusing the females in their families, there ought to be a law that sends them back to their countries of origin -- or throws them in jail, so they can't hunt down their female family members after an intervention.
What a mess.
I learned that the women burned themselves so that the muslims wouldn't take them as sex slaves..
over the 700+ years of slaughtering hindus, it became cultural..
I like Barbara Kay but even should could not bring herself to use the word Muslin or Islam. This problem is simple. Unless one is an apostate from Islam, or a none Islamist sect. Ban the Colinization of Canada from Islamists, & Muslims. Who make iot plain everyday they want to substitute their law for ours.
Destroy our Religions, banish our heritage.
Its the koran stupid, that makes these people do what they do.
No amount of education or screening is going to stop this behavior. If fact allowing them in is just increasing the factors of eventual Infiltration of our own society purposely towards the heinous shraia laws they want forced on everyone. From Turkeys to schools topolice or social services.
Yes, Indeed.
