No its a lack of any moral sense at all. This is now a Sodom & Gomorrah World. People think the event is just about Gays. Thats false. They are just the active component. The fact the whole town conspired against the two Angles is the real story behind its demise. The lack of any civility plus no protection for travelers. The incitement of a whole city to do evil against the stranger was considered in those days was grave social offense.

Let me guess - he's just trying to get into the minds of those whom he must discipline for sexual impropriety. He probably argues that it makes him a better chair of discipline because he "gets it".
I'd say lack of shame, lack of morals, but no lack of fantasies, as for a sense of irony, his senses were to busy elsewhere - irony was the last thing on his mind when writing this book.
