It is true that environmentalism is very strong in Germany, and there is still some hostility to capitalism (a.k.a. brutal Anglo-Saxon capitalism) . There is constant talk in Der Spiegel about "speculators" and an attitude that worries about government bonds are "contagious"--the idea being that speculators might "catch" fear of, say, Portugese bonds from Greece. They seem to have trouble with the concept that bad fiscal management caused te problem in both countries (I do not want to over-generalize, this is not true of all Germans).
That was a very interesting article, it shows that Hitler wasn't alone in his enviromental obsession. I have always found funny the attempts to hide the "green side" of Nazism. Hitler was a very dull person - a non-smoking vegetarian, who hated alcohol. He introduced some of the strictest animal cruelty laws in Europe (and he definitely loved his dog much more than the Jews).
He would've made a great chairman of PETA.

I had to point out to a German how the Holocaust started out by killing the disabled, something he denied (the origin, not the Holocaust).

Yes it did. I read an article recently where one family had "rescued" their child from the "care home". Later in an unexpected departure from the usual good German record keeping, they received notice that their child had "died" of natural causes.
He was maxed out on wierd. I was watching a documentary last night on his rise, he openly stated in a public speech that he wanted to suppress all other political parties. He never made a secret of his goals it seems.

Well, I think it would be better to say that Nazi eugenic killing started with the disabled. The Holocaust was something else. The level of resentment that was needed to carry out the "final solution" could not have existed without the Jews, specifically, being the target (as they were in Nazi propaganda and Hitler's writing even before he came to power.) Even to the eugenicist murderer, the disabled are hardly a source of much resentment. But we need to recognize and ask why - accepting no b.s. answers - Jews, or what it is they are thought to represent, are exceptional as a focus of great resentment.
