Robert Redford Slips Into Dotage
Inconvenient Truths About Sundance
Middle America’s quaint pastimes are mocked. Quirky teens navigate suburbia’s dark, surreal underbelly. Filmmakers make films about filmmaking. Families are weird, the planet is dying, baby boomers are awesome, everyone’s gay, and America sucks.
Welcome to the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, which, as you can see from this year’s lineup, was indistinguishable from every previous Sundance Film Festival.

No. I do not like this song nor am I nostalgic for some left-wing revisionist "Amerika", I do think it illustrates Redford's delusion however.
I warned you about him-- another crazy celeb. No use getting sentimental about it...
Too bad, he really seems lost, his statements about the 99 % are delusional.
Hey, man, all that crack and pot has to go somewhere man.
You know, after 30 some years of actively following politics you would think I'd be numb to these idiots. You would be wrong. They continue to amuse and infuriate me.
I could NEVER stand any of these film festivals. I have a friend who lives in Toronto who's parents always go, or try to go to a major TIFF movie, but I wouldn't spend the money to do that, nor waste any time watching those horrible films.
What's wrong with movies these days? What's wrong with the people who watch them and make them? More and more I feel like they just don't understand the rest of us. I took a film class a while back to boost my GPA, it was the history of science fiction film. Here I thought we would be discussing movies like Star Wars, the evolution of special effects, George Lucas' vision of the universe versus Gene Roddenberry, etc Instead, we get the original Dune, Aliens 3, the horrible Canadian movie about the end of the world, and a slew of other awful and forgettable movies. When discussing what films we ourselves like, I coud sense the hatred for "popcorn flicks" like the action packed summer blockbusters everyone else loved, but there was also this disdain for people like myself who liked those films as well. Like they were some how better for not liking films the rest of us "inferiors" did. Wouldn't surprise me if that's why the professor decided to shred my final paper.
Kathy Shaidle's article is a great read, but what's said in it doesn't surprise me. At this point, I think Robert Redford and the rest need a swift kick to the side of the head to help bring them back to reality from whatever fantasy land they're in now.
You must got the Canadian version of sci fi film studies. Sounds awful. I'd rather parse Latin verbs!
He's been a leftist for decades. Get hold of his Sundance catalog and read his crap message on the inside cover. Ack! Redford is an incredible eco-hypocrite, as well. http://youtu.be/YaUQQMv80Oo
The communist hippy film festival is just the tip.
Canadian indeed. It also didn't help me that I tore apart Canadian film as a pathetic attempt "not to be American." If we produced movies and shows people would watch, not garabge like Little Mosque on the Prairie, we wouldn't need the public funding and the CBC to force people to watch it.
I actually preferred Post-War Polish Cinema to that class, and those films were slit-your-wrist-depressing (the Polish as a STRANGE people). At least in that class you didn't have a professor who looked down on your for having "common tastes."
I would actually like to go to this festival and marvel at the deluded world of these simple minded fools. It would be like entering a weird hinterland of the mind. You really can't believe what you're seeing. It's right in front of you, and yet it seemw impossible. Every second word is based on ten false premises. There is deep delusion. It's kind of like reading The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
They live in a the world they wish that was, much like the CBC.
Hollywood is built on hypocrisy;)
The entire Canadian film industry is built on your family name and how close to the public trough your relatives are.
I actually find this kinda sad. It's such a demonstrably false position for him to have taken that I can't bring myself to ascribe it to guile. I think he's just living in a bubble, albeit a very nice bubble.
They are not delusional. They are just being themselves.
How many brain cells does it take to be a liar or have a personality shift disorder? Most of these actors never even got a High School diploma. If they do its from a leftist College where community organizing is more important than Biology or science.
After the 60s only trash or Family inbreeding by stars made it. The Grants, Hitchcock's, Nevins, Burns , Benny's. People with some class all died to be replaced by Hollywood kids & trash with connections.
This is why BollyWood now makes more money than the crap produced by the scions of an interbreed clique in LA.
The older actors had to do vaudeville in front to real crowds, or Broadway. Few of those are left. Writers have become formula hucksters. Now its billionaire children Like the Paris Hilton's who get dumb & Dumber by the year.
Am I the only human being who never thought that either Robert Redford or Paul Newman were ever good looking? Nothing about either one of them ever appealed to me.
the jdl socialist movement will be arond fo a long time in teermas of increasing many social programmes which we feel are necessary to protect the welfare state.
as socialists we support gay rights, kyoto, a guaranteed annual income, a national denticare plan for everyone among other plans. to answer some other bloggers about israel, IT IS NOT NECESS ARY TO BE A SMALL C CONSERVATIVE IN ORDER TO STRONGLY SUPPORT ISRAEL. we strongly oppose any government that engages in cutbacks in domestic and military programmes. with love of israel.
I liked Newman, he never struck me as as full of the usual Hollywood BS. PS Don't let Scaramouche hear ya sayin that...
Sure explains him being against the XL Pipeline, what's the excuse for the rest of HOLLYWEIRD WACKOS?!!!
I'll admit to sheer ignorance here. Was Reford in anything I ought to see? (I never made it through Butch Cassidy, so, um, something else.)
South Park had him drown in sewage, but sadly I can't find the clip.
The way we were...
Herd mentality.
Agreed. It's not about substance or producing ACTUAL CANADIAN CONTENT, it's about public funds for projects put on by people who are connected. All one needs to do is look at Little Mosque on the Prairie for example of that.
