Brian Lilley: CBC - Canadian Bawdy Corporation

The CBC uses your tax dollars to make porn. This may be the only MotherCorp production you'll see not using CBC family members on screen. Be grateful for that.

Is the CBC paying for porn?

Marty –   – (6:32 AM)

You would think that, if there was an entertainment form that could thrive without government subsidy, this'd be it. I wonder if the CBC has managed to make it as clunky and gawd-awful as their dramas?

batb –   – (7:02 AM)

CBC response to charges of airing porn: "Hard, not considered pornographic material; it's rated 16+."

I sure as heck wouldn't want my 16-year-old, 17-year-old, 18-year-old, etc. to be watching this stuff. The CBC has no business airing porn on any of their channels or Web sites, especially as they're funded by taxpayers.

This is outrageous and I'm extremely disappointed in Minister Moore's weasel dismissal of this issue by refusing to watch the segment thereby refusing to comment on something he hasn't watched. The last straw of credibility (who's he representing: the Canadian people or the CBC?) was when he told the Sun reporter that it was Sun media's job to go after the CBC?

Well, Minister Moore, you might be right on that, but at least they're challenging the CBC's leftard, anti-conservative, wasting-taxpayer-dollars bias, something you seem reluctant to do.

Scaramouche  – (7:11 AM)

Best comment over at the Toronto Sun: "The CBC has been screwing us for years."

sanwin –   – (7:49 AM)

Actually it's even worse. They bought that crap from Canal+ from France.

Wyatt Ironbridge  – (7:53 AM)

I'm reminded of the Supreme Court judge who said he couldn't define pornography, but he knew it when he saw it. You can also hear it;  that "hip" corny music pretty much told me it was porn without the thin veil - or any veil! - of  artistic value.
But they will insist this is some kind of brave programming, rather than run of the mill stuff available anywhere.

Blazingcatfur –   – (8:21 AM)

Of course it's promoting the French language as well.

Blazingcatfur –   – (8:21 AM)

Seriously? Oh brother.

Blazingcatfur –   – (8:30 AM)

Ha!

David –   – (8:49 AM)

Blaze:
Today's (Thursday's) Toronto Sun has two good stories on this. It turns out that a Sun reporter (I forget whom) caught Heritage Minister James Moore at a scrum in the House, and asked him about the soft-CBC-porn. Moore turned around and scolded the Sun reporter, claining that the Sun was "following an anti-CBC agenda".  Later, Moore went back to the reporter, suggesting that he or she was hypocritical, since the Sun "publishes a daily Sunshine girl".
In other words, Moore is equating bikini clad women (or more fully clad women) to full nudity and porn.

After I teach my first-year class, I will post the articles if I can find them.

The Heritage Minister. a Conservative .. who not only seemingly promotes the Slanted  views in the CBC and supports its money he also made a comment that the SUN News is ..there job to go after the CBC .. When is his job up for reelection again?

wallyj –   – (2:06 PM)

Does anyone have a link to the actual show?
I scoured the French CBC site and couldn't find the show, not that I want to see hairy people do the nasty, purely for the articles.

Truepeers –   – (2:45 PM)

Quebecers have been masturbating themselves into non-existence for decades. Now we can suspect it's all part of a government plot.

wallyj –   – (2:46 PM)

I found it. It is through a link on the French cbc.

How ironic: Wasn't it James Moore who, in the HOC in 2007, was
accused of watching "scantily clad women" on
his laptop by  idiot NDPer Irene Mathyssen? 'Turns out it was his
girlfriend!

I'm very disappointed in James Moore's refusal to comment on very real porn on the CBC, as he equates pornography to bikini-clad Sunshine Girls. If you watch the video, David, you'll see the SunTV reporter talking to James Moore.

It's too bad that the CBC seems to have such clout over the Heritage Minister -- when it should be the other way around. I guess he wants to be with the "in crowd." Isn't being a Minister of the Crown more important? Isn't justifying the spending of taxpayers' dollars more important than defending porn, which he refuses to verify, on the CBC?

The CBC's become a rogue elephant which needs to be put down.

batb –   – (4:16 PM)

It's clear that the CBC in Quebec is wooing younger viewers, though we all know that addiction to pornography afflicts all age groups.

GOOD NEWS!

"Minister Slams CBC sex show":

http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/world/archives/2012/02/20120202-144557.html

Heritage Minister James Moore has seen the light -- or, at least, the CBC show Hard and says,"This programming cannot be defended. ... Having now seen the show in question,
it raises serious concerns about some programming decisions being made
with taxpayers' dollars by CBC/Radio-Canada."

The minister indicated the show will not be available for much longer. "Today
I contacted the CBC and asked them to review all of their online
content to ensure offensive programming such as this is not repeated."
Moore said in a statement.

Trying again. I posted a similar comment a few minutes ago, but it's been munched by the cyberspace monster.

Good news, over at SunTV: "Minister slams CBC's sex show":

http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/world/archives/2012/02/20120202-144557.html

Heritage Minister James Moore said about Hard, "This programming cannot be defended. Having now seen the show in question, it
raises serious concerns about some programming decisions being made with
taxpayers' dollars by CBC/Radio-Canada."

Apparently, the show will not be available for much longer.

Good decision, Minister Moore!

Dodoforever Canspell –   – (6:36 PM)

I am wondering if the heritage minister was taped in some compromising position a la porn positions .... and is being blackmailed by that info into making him CBC's  best buddy ... nothing else makes sense.

Dodoforever Canspell –   – (6:42 PM)

On another note, re. comment about James Moore on the Sunshine girl, it's true that it makes the Sun media look a tad hypocritical.  If you are preaching good values, the almost naked bimbo pics tell another story.   I used to think of the Sun as yellow media because of those pics, now I try to ignore that side of  Sun.  Yup .... moi a  bit hypocritical  too.

Blazingcatfur –   – (7:30 PM)

Hypocrisy has its place in the world;)

Blazingcatfur –   – (7:30 PM)

Ha! I'd pay for that info;)

Blazingcatfur –   – (7:40 PM)

Thanks BatB posted the update.

He would be if

1.  we could ever find him; and,

2.  his clothing was a 'tasteful' as that of the ladies.

Inannawhimsey –   – (8:27 PM)

Ah yes, more fear of the human body courtesy of the MSM; sales of porn detectors (that can actually, accurately to within .01%, detect all manners of bodily filth) are going to rise and get moist...

Iannawhimsey –   – (8:29 PM)

SACREMENT!

Iannawhimsey –   – (8:30 PM)

yuppers, until someone invents a porn detector, we're just gonna have to live with other people (judges, law makers) telling us what is right and wrong in that regard.  it is to cry

perspectives –   – (11:18 PM)

Where do you draw the line? The material, paid for by taxpayers, is accessible by everyone.

Do you think 5 and ten year olds should have access to this material?

I, for one of many, am not paying my public broadcaster to produce and air porn, simple as that. If one wants porn they can pay for it out of their own pocket, not out of the public purse. sheesh.

One thing in their favour - it's better than Little Mosque.
